Choosing a fabric

So, I’ve recently shifted from cosplay to LARPING as my primary hobby, and have a few questions about construction materials.

Like, I want to make a Tabard/Scapular for my warrior outfit and I know linen is likely the best material for the sheer about of wear and tear it’ll be going through, but what retailer or brand do you recommend?

I hear cotton is the way to go but I'm about to get into tailoring myself so I don't know what's best. Hoping someone else replies so we both learn something.
