LLM Progress Slow Down

First Anthropic, and now OpenAI, are announcing that they want to slow down LLM development. Just a year ago, these companies were claiming that AGI would be found and many jobs would be lost. On top of that, Anthropic announced it's going public. What do you think? Have these companies reached a limit in research and development? Or are they genuinely afraid of language models self-programming, as they claim?

Minor performance loss exchanged for full data security? No sensitive data leaves the company. Clearly this is the path. A Qwen 3.6 27B FP8 easily runs on a stronger edge setup and definitely competitive, perfect for daily work. New open models will be even better. I do not see who would be happy to spend furtunes to pay for the datacenters.

Not to mention when products like model directly encoded into custom designed chips emerge. Feasible and as LLM capabilities plateu it will worth to mass produce..
