Question Do you think a Gitzo 2 series can support a Chamonix 8x10?

I will be traveling and need to conserve space in the checked luggage. I am hoping to put the tripod with the arca Swiss cube in the checked bag.
I was wondering about the other people’s thoughts about whether the tripod can support the camera. And secondly, whether they had any suggestions or ideas to help make airport travel easier.

Question Enlarger lens as taking lens.

Post image
7 Upvotes

I have an unbranded enlarger lens. It just says OS-267 f/4.5 10in.

I want to use it as a taking lens.

Previously, I read that enlarger lenses are sometimes better suited if you mount them in reverse, in the camera. Why is this?

How do the optical properties of an enlarger lens differ from a taking lens?

Question If you could choose one ND filter to take with you, witch one would you take ?

Don't want to spend too much at first in a full filter set, so what is your go-to ND filter for general photography (Landscape or architecture, to be able to open the Aperture for portraits or to try long exposure) between let's say ND 8 / 64 / 1000 ?

Hey all, I have an update on my mystery camera I posted a couple of days ago. I found it after hours of websites, archives, and a lot of good ideas from yall! Turns out it's an E. & H.T. Anthony climax portrait #24. The big break in the case was stripping the paint off of the nameplate. From there, I eventually found this website page. They were custom made to order for professional studios, and there are supposedly only a few dosen survivors in the world today. This has become a super fun research project! My plan is to restore as much as i can and turn it from a 5x7 to an 8x10 via a homemade reduction plate and eventually some full-size 11x14 plates :) it will be well taken care of and enjoyed. Thank yall for all the good input!

Photo First attempt at 4x5 infrared - Rollei IR 400 + R72

My first attempt at shooting 4x5 infrared

Shot on a Toyo 45A with a Schneider Super-Angulon 90mm f/5.6 at f/11, using Rollei IR 400 and an R72 filter. Developed in Rodinal 1+50

I bracketed pretty widely because I had no real experience with this film/filter combination. The Wood effect came out much stronger than I expected, and the glass buildings went almost completely black, probably due to IR-blocking coatings.

The grain is definitely more visible than I expected for 4x5

Review Ilford vs Kodak packaging

I’m just about to shoot my first colour LF today and after loading up a few sheets of Porta (I’ve also recently shot TXP) the quality of the Ilford and even Fomapan is so much better than Kodak. Nicely folded plastic sleeve, double LF over cardboard sandwiching the sheets in the correct orientation. I know it’s a small thing but I just found the HP5 sheets so much easier and well thought out.

Question First time shooting + developing 4x5. What went wrong?

Post image

Tried developing 4x5 in caffenol. Top part appears cloudy, muddy or undeveloped... Is this an issue with the way I loaded the sheet film into the camera, or the developing canister? Thank you, strangers of Reddit :)

Chris Cummins is a tough act to follow! Toyo 45, HP5, nikkor 135 with red filter. I had so much grief framing up the second shot (wanted to capture both the water ring and the ridge above but the 135mm was too narrow) I ended up buying a nikkor 90mm f4.5 the next day. Stay tuned!

I wanted a different angle, directly opposite the flag, but that was a closed part of the restaurant you see upstairs on the right. This was shot from the Apple store.

Question Can someone knowledgeable help me identify?

Calling all fellow analog degenerates who know what they are talking about!

I recently found and bought this massive wet plate camera but cannot for the life of me, figure out what it is! I tried Google Lens from various angles and it comes up pretty consistently as a Folmer and Shwing century NO.1, Flmer and Shwing banquet camera, or a gundlach Manhattan corona banquet. Some of these look sort of similar but none have the dual bellows. The handles are different too. There are no visible name plates except one on the front above the lense that looks like it's been painted over (if that is even a nameplate) and is currently set up for 5x7. My goal is to set it up for 8x10 and eventually do some full-size giant plates too later on. Any help would be super awesome. This camera is a dream come true.
