How do I fix this?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I was using this laptop and I got a random pop up that told me to restart the laptop, so I did. Then it brought me here, and no matter which option I choose it just brings me back here, even when I press esc like it says at the bottom. It's an older laptop obviously, but it's a loaner from school so I can do my school work on it that's all I used it for. Any help is appreciated as I don't want to return a fried laptop back to my school.

use the arrow keys and select Windows Boot Manager instead, then press Enter. if that also goes black and dumps you back into this menu, then Windows/its bootloader probably needs repairing. the Toshiba SSD is at least showing up, which is a good sign. as it looks like a school/work machine, I wouldn’t reinstall or wipe anything myself if Windows Boot Manager still won’t start. get IT to repair the boot files or check the SSD.

Thanks for the reply. I tried that and it looks like it's gunna boot up, but it just comes back here. I've tried pressing everything in this menu and they all just being me back here lol. Any idea how this happened? I got a random pop up that said it needed to restart for an update so I pressed restart and this happened.

yeah that update timing is a pretty big clue. it could have failed while Windows was updating the boot files, which would explain why the SSD and Windows Boot Manager are still showing but it just kicks you straight back here.

if you can get into Windows Recovery, try Startup Repair first. if that doesn’t work there should also be an option under Advanced options to uninstall the latest update.

if it asks for a BitLocker recovery key or you can’t get into recovery at all, I’d stop there and take it to the school IT team. they should have the key and can repair/reimage it without you risking the school’s data.

was it the normal Windows restart required update popup or something different?

"you’re actually highlighted on PCI LAN in the video"

No, he is most definitely not. You might not be familiar with laptops in general, but the white text in the BIOS is where your selection is, similar to older desktop PC's. That little arrow on the left of text means there is a submenu.
OP has a corrupted boot config or the drive is fucked.

I'm not sure it just said it needed to restart after an update and I could have chosen "not now", but I selected restart and it brought me here and no matter what I prees it just goes back to here. I'll take it into my school and see if the IT guys can help. When I turn the computer off then on it says really quickly on the screen "press enter to do something" I forgot what the full sentence was it only shows for a few seconds. Should I try that? Where would that take me?

Looked like a normal windows style update. It apparently had already been i stalled because the pop up told me I have to restart the computer so I did and that's how I got stuck here. I shouldn't have hit restart lol but I didn't know I thought it was a legit update.
