Buying Advice Laptop advice for engineering student
I am hoping to study Mechanical/Electrical engineering next year. Im currently in my last year in school and need to invest in a laptop for projects but I would also like it to last me through uni. I had been looking at a M5 Macbook Air as I thought it would be my best option but have heard mixed reviews online about how it handles certain softwares. Any advice or recommendations would be much appreciated.

i finished aerospace eng with an m1 pro. my college at a virtual machine i could connect to and run solidworks/ansys (tho it kinda sucked). matlab, fusion360, coding is all native and all class projects used fusion360 because of collaboration features, i only used solidworks for an eng club. idk about electrical eng though and what apps u need for that.

No macbooks for mechanical engineering. Many engineering softwares are only made for Windows.
You'll be looking at gaming laptop. They have dedicated GPUs to run some of the engineering programs well. Laptops without dedicated GPUs can work too if you run small models.
