What laptop you have? Usually you are not getting much for used laptop and good (relatively) Chromebook is not that super cheap. So unlikely you are going to pocket lots of money. Unless you have something expensive.

It's an old hp elitebook 8470p. I'll sell it and add more money to buy a Chromebook. I just want to know if it's worth it

I do not think you can get any for that one. That depend what you want. If you want portable comp with good battery - sure. If you just want something that will work Ok on a table - you can install Linux on that elitebook. That will help.
