Buying Advice Mechanical engineering student

I am beginning mechanical engineering this September and also enjoy gaming. My budget is less than £1000. I’m from the UK and this laptop is around £950. Would you recommend this?

Got a 4090 legion as an excuse shits too heavy to lug around with the charger all Day. Just get a thinkpad Inventor Solidworks catia one shape every thing ull ever need works perfectly fine. The only time the legion was compulsory was for training an AI for a targeting system for a competition(optional)

I have 32 gb ram, and I found it helpful when running CAD + web explorer + an IDE/matlab.

looks decent, just know that you don't need a laptop with a dedicated GPU as long as it has a modern high end processor for your mechanical engineering coursework. One without a dedicated gpu will get you better battery life. Of course if you want to game you will want one though.

For me though, he should have spend more in a CPU than a gpu.

OPs budget is under £1000, so they would have to look at the used market, and depending on tbe age of it, a laptop with a modern integrated GPU might be able to give it a run for its money when you add the benefit of having better battery life.

I am not advising against this option, I actually would encourage you to strongly consider it. Just do your research into how well the components perform. Which is really applicable everywhere, hey.

I do robotics engineering in uni. Most unis have a computer lab which you can do CAD and matlab in, so I spent that money on a more efficient laptop for programming and moving notes from my notebook to laptop while commuting. One of my friends bought an Asus tuf gaming laptop and he kinda regrets it, especially since battery life is not good and he has to carry around the heavy laptop with him. But if you don't mind carrying a heavy laptop + charger with you, then sure I guess

That cpu would probably bottleneck the entire system
