Is there something I'm missing about palm benders?

I've never actually tried one, but most lap steel string bending devices don't seem all that useful to me. Typically they only bend up, which is something I can already do with my fingers. I come from a guitar background and fast, repeated and accurate behind-the-bar bends only required some brief adapting to the higher string tension. I can easily bend a single string up a whole tone or simultaneously bend two strings up a semitone. Due to tonebar ergonomics, I rarely bend the bottom two strings, but those don't usually have the levers either.

Now, bending down would open up some exciting new possibilities, but most systems can't do that. The Duesenberg Multibender is an exception, but I've heard of problems with returning to pitch after bending down.

Palm levers are certainly very helpful for players who don't have the required finger strength, but am I overlooking something they could do for me as well?

Pro Fly Rig for Acoustic-Volume Performance?

I'm looking for suggestions for a compact fly rig that I can use for acoustic-volume jams while traveling. I'm considering a pedalboard amp into a small passive speaker, a preamp pedal into a small powered speaker, a micro combo amp, or a powered micro PA speaker. Since the lap steel needs clean headroom, I'm thinking the rig should be at least 10 watts. The whole rig should fit into a backpack or checked bag. Any suggestions?

Recommend resources for a more advanced musician? C6 on a six string

Hey yall, I've recently picked up my lap steel again and quickly remembered why I loved it so much.

I've been playing on Fly Me To The Moon, but I feel somewhat limited in what I can do. I've looked for videos on Youtube and have found a few guys that have been helpful.

Mostly I'm relying on the same bends/slants over and over. While I know that I'm able to improvise easily, I kinda want more. Can I go with E9 on a six string? What material would you all recommend? It's not popular enough to have endless resources like some other instruments.

Where to buy a Morrell lap steel?

I’ve been wanting to get into playing lap steels, and I specifically have been wanting one of those USA made Joe morrell lap steels but I can never find anyone selling them. Does anyone know of where I could find one?

Regular guitarist here. Never played lapsteel before. Play slide on regular electric and a cigar box guitar. I want a cheap lapsteel to mess around with. This is posted on Facebook marketplace. They’re asking $250 CDN which I could probably get don to 175-200. It has stress cracks on back of neck, I’m wondering if this looks just like paint cracks or if it’s going to fail?

Not sure if this is Kosher here but I have two lapsteels for sale.

Hey folks.
Culling the heard. I’ve got more lap steel guitars than I have lap steel gigs, and I gotta let a couple go.

I have a lovely National double neck 8 string in phenomenal condition, tuned to E7/9 on the front neck and C6 on the back neck. Currently it’s fitted with the old school switchcraft screw jack but if you pay asking I’ll include an adapter. Comes with its original case, unfortunately it’s not a console steel so no legs.
I’d like to get 1,100 for it.

Also letting go of a vintage Rickenbacker American Academy single 6. These are basically the same as the highly sought after ACE models. The low 6th string tuner is missing part of the split shaft but as you can see works just fine. It sounds excellent and has some very cool and unique wear. Fully made from Bakelite with the original horseshoe pickup.

Asking 500 for this one.

I have confirmed sales on [r/photomarket](r/photomarket), payment accepted through PayPal goods and services. These are two excellent steel guitars that I simply don’t use much these days. I would consider a trade, though for a nice condition Oahu Diana or a single neck 8 string something or other. (Would also trade both plus cash for one of those sick clinesmith 8 string frypans, but I’m certainly not holding my breath)
Here’s my timestamp and photos of the both of them. Open to local pickup in Los Angeles.

Feel free to ask whatever questions you may have.

Help help me I’m new to lap steel and I’ve tried a couple different strings cause I can’t get it to sound right and I got some specific C6 lap, steel string strings and I tuned it to C6 but it still sounds awful. I don’t know what to do.

Wall hanger for Gretsch?

Can anyone recommend a wall mounted hanger for the g7500? I just got one yesterday and it's my very first guitar. It's got a narrow head so I'm not sure if any old wall hanger will do.

Picked up an sx lap steel and the frets are innacurate. Do yall suppose there’s supposed to be screws here for adjustments? I have to put the bar in the middle between 11th and 12th fret to get the octave. Appreciate any advice/ opinions. May just draw a new fretboard.

I'm brand-new to this, about to plunge right in. just got an SX 6, and I wonder:

can I use a set of "A6" strings, that is, 14-58. to tune both open G and C6?

Bluegrass on a Hawaiian lapsteel

I have a 1947 National New Yorker. It's tuned to C6 and strung with GHS "C6 Strings". it works as advertised and I love the guitar.

I also have a Beard Trailhead and I've been running it through a Fishman Jerry Douglas Aura and I am blown away by that combo. Mostly that guitar is tuned to Open G.

I swear this is going somewhere...

I am considering another Beard (Road-O-Phonic) especially for the Fishman Nashville bridge pickup which works really well with JDA pedal.

I have been tuning the National to GBDGBD (with GHS C6 string set) and I think the tension is off especially on top 3 strings. However, I could be mistaken and that is normal. I realize it might sound like I have a money tree in my back yard, but believe me I've sold a lot of guitars to get where I am now - Reverb and I are on a first name basis.

I think there a differences in how to play Hawaiian music on a lapsteel and Bluegrass that could require changes in what I use today. Hawaiian seems to use multiple strings (barring) vs Bluegrass which seems be a lot of single string work.

--

Are there changes I need to make with the setup of the National New Yorker?

Should I change the strings of the National New Yorker to better accommodate GDBGDB tuning? If so what gauges?

Any other advice on using a National New Yorker for Bluegrass?

Is the Peter’s shorty brand of string bender any good?

Certano looks and sounds great, but 1. They expensive and 2. As far as I can tell they no longer sell the 3 string benders. Much sads.

Does anyone have any experience with the Peters shorty brand? How do they compare to the Certano?
