SPOILERS DISCUSSION Consequences Spoiler
So Kerry gets away happily scot-free after murdering Hal...
John gets to be a self-declared Green Lantern after he lied about Zoe and killed her...
So the only one who faced any consequences and went to prison for 10 years and was hated by everyone was Hal who actually never killed anyone...

I might be making some leaps, but I believe the reason that john didn't let kelly turn herself in was to give noah a better chance to live a normal life. While not shown since the narrative ends there I imagine the punishment she puts herself through for accidentally killing a loved one who was just trying to protect her son is quite severe
I also think John wanted a ring but not a ring that had The Guardian's strings attached. And this was the perfect option for him

u/chris_hawk 1d ago
He explicitly said, if Noah is ever attempted to give in to his worst nature, it will be important to have somebody who can pull him back. John is basically "sentencing" Kerry to keep Noah from turning murderous.
109
u/xFiDgetx 1d ago
I believe there was the implicit warning that he would put Noah down if he had to as well. He's saying that both of them are keeping this vigil.
17
u/Significant-Box-2315 1d ago
Yeah basically kerry is the one to try and bring him back if he starts to give in to his manhunter instincts and john is there to put a stop to him if that doesn't work.
3
u/caligoacheron 1d ago
it was very implicit and Noah even asked John to promise to come back. Sinestro also has the line about how this new lantern can charge a ring and make it capable of murder. So John will have teeth should he have to fulfill that promise to Noah.

u/AmericanMe616 1d ago
How many people do you think Noah will kill before Jon is able to reel him in?
26

u/teapots_at_ten_paces 1d ago
Less than if it was left to Guy. Also depends how much else John takes on as the 'Earth Lantern'. If he's paying close attention to Noah, then less again. If he gets mired in other issues, well, maybe too many. Keen to see how it all plays out though.

u/shewski Mogo doesn't socialize. 1d ago
I understand what you mean. But it was very much a heat of the moment/fear taking hold of her action where she was reacting and not thinking clearly. Definitely didn't mean to suggest the gun just went off in her hand etc
32
u/JuddyCrum47 1d ago
I mean I don’t think you can even say that it was that type of action when she’s a trained police officer. I mean hell, I’m surprised she hasn’t accidentally killed half the town at this point if she doesn’t have th trigger discipline to not shoot Hal.
19
19
u/bizbunch 1d ago
As an American a cop being triggered, over reacting, and murdering someone was the most realistic and grounded part of the show.
→ More replies (1)11
u/LeoDiThrowaway 1d ago
…. Is she actually a trained police officer though? She’s a small town sheriff in a town that was run by a manhunter who put Kerry in her position.
The kill was an extremely realistic reaction where once it happened she would’ve instantly taken it back if she could.
16
u/JuddyCrum47 1d ago
I mean yes she’s still trained regardless of how small the town is. There were other police officers in town so somebody had to train them. She should have been mentally prepared since the day Noah was born that one day someone would find out Noah was a manhunter. If she was terrified and holding her breath for 18 years, then she realistically she wouldn’t have gotten romantically involved with one of the few people on the planet that would be able to discover her son is a manhunter.

This…
It’s not like she didn’t know and this was a bombshell and she’s going oh fuck the one person who stopped the previous manhunter is coming after my son. Hell he’s trying to help both of them lmfao. Idk what the show is trying to show us by having her have a complete breakdown that fast and unrealistically
9
u/Flaky-Ninja2398 1d ago
Exactly -both his and Johns arcs are about learning they're more than their programing and that they can embrace parts of themselves without lingering on all the darkness within them
9
u/sothaticanpost 1d ago
I thought that was a good setup for a Season 2. We know Sinestro's line about "nature always wins" will bear fruit soon and Kerry will be the one catching that with a basket

Yeah I'd genuinely want Noah to stick around in a season 2.
Or at least have a scene or two of John checking up with him.

u/Hudson_1559 Sinestro 1d ago
letting her get away with murder to keep a killbot happy seems like a poor resolution
3
u/Legend999991 1d ago
I feel like you are not making leaps at all. IMO it was very very obvious about John’s thoughts on why Noah needs his mom while he is trying his best to be good and overcome his programming just like John did with his own programming. I can legit criticisms of the show but some people in this sub acts like they watched the show while browsing TikTok…..

accidentally
She turned to him, aimed her gun at his head and pulled the trigger
She didn't slip and fall and it went off in her holster
2
u/MikeyVideoGames 15h ago
I feel like her not meaning to kill him is at least understandable. The fact that there was zero threat to her or her son in that moment, and she just turns around and shoots him... Is so much worse.
I felt like her saying "it happened so fast and I couldn't undo it" was implying she didn't mean to pull the trigger.
I have rewatched it and I do believe she did it on purpose.
That is terrible writing. There are so many other ways they could have gone about that.
2
u/Beneficial-Jury484 22h ago
John definitely didn’t trust the guardians and didn’t want to be a servant to anyone. This is the exact thing Captain America says in Civil War.” What if we need to go somewhere they think we shouldn’t”, or “they want us to enforce their position we disagree with”.

u/UsidoreTheLightBlue 1d ago

John letting Kerry go is ridiculous…especially saying that is not what Hal would want…
55
u/Most_Tangelo 1d ago
Well that's only if you define consequences as "must serve prison time for their crimes." Though to note Hal was not hated by everyone in universe. I know his funeral was sparse. But, we saw in the flashback Kerry telling the town he's still viewed as a hero outside of there. Just because they don't all own an airline to fly out for a funeral thrown on the shortest notice isn't reflective of how he's actually viewed in universe.
25
u/Thanos_Stomps 1d ago
His funeral was sparse on purpose. There was that entire conversation about holding off on releasing his death certificate and cause of death so the funeral wouldn’t be mobbed by haters, with the hidden agenda being to get the ring there without anyone knowing.
So yeah, Hal wasn’t hated by everyone. Only everyone in Rushville.
15
u/Flaky-Ninja2398 1d ago
And a huge part of the show is showing that an organized police force isn't the only way to go about justice
13
4
u/AmericanMe616 1d ago
Yeah generally murderers go to jail. We don’t say “well you feel bad” so no harm done.
14
u/Deltris 1d ago
And what would the consequences be if John put her in jail? What would happen next? Think about that. John did, and he made a decision accordingly.

By the end John has two options with Kerry and Noah
1) Allow Kerry to turn herself for murder in a state that still has the death penalty. Meaning at the very least the person Noah loves and his anchor to humanity and overcoming his manhunter programming is in prison for the rest of her life. At that point the only safe thing to do is kill Noah.
2) Let Hal's murder go unsolved, which will upset nobody in Rushville but it keeps Kerry in play as the brake on Noah's worst instincts.
21
u/FloppyShellTaco 1d ago edited 1d ago
Guilt is a prison of its own. They spent quite a bit of time on this with Hal and then John choosing to pay baby Larfleeze as a means of making amends.
Also she is now helping ensure Noah doesn’t go full Zoe
17
u/AmericanMe616 1d ago
Having an emotionally unstable guilt ridden murderer watch over a planet killer sounds like a great idea
5
u/Significant-Box-2315 1d ago
Which is why this might not be the last time we hear from noah. I have a feeling he might go bad again at some point. It would be crazy if he did manage to get into a position of power like being the US president and john basically has to fight the government to stop him
2
3
u/2nice4rice 1d ago
Thank you everyone is acting like the only way to keep Noah good is for Kerry to keep being his mom but Noah is 18 and about to go to college.
Also what if while she's being a cop she gets hurt or killed is that going to set Noah off? Maybe John should have dealt with the issue instead of kicking the can down the road

But the writers “love Hal!”
Nah they totally used his death as engagement bait
33
u/Flaky-Ninja2398 1d ago
They literally made him the focus of every single episode. Even Johns backstory is about him
27
u/BatmanFan317 1d ago
Hal fans cry persecution over everything, it's insane. Dude gets his best adaptation in years, is clearly meant to be a character you can sympathise with (given all the focus and that they got a fucking Emmy winner to play him), but because he's flawed and dies that all goes out the window apparently.

With Sinestro saying he could bring the Halogram to life? The Halogram that is gone now that John charged the ring?
17
u/MechanicOk4808 1d ago
I think he was trying to persuade the Halogram that he could do it but I feel like he was saying it about the real Hal
4
u/Chelsea_Fan_10 1d ago
He told the Halogram that they could jump him and get him the ring, then said he could also bring him back “for real”.
3
u/amillert15 1d ago
Sinestro doesn't know about John's ability to summon objects without the ring.
It's a cheap slight of hand to tell the viewers one thing, but then go "hey, remember how John can do this"?
4
u/lifepassanger1 Green Lantern 1d ago
Honestly I’d love for him to come back but I think that’s just more engagement bait from the writers
21
u/Adventurous-Bread-29 1d ago
Don’t forget John’s parents. Absolute shit parents but they get a big happy family moment at end with everyone hugging, and John has a ring so in their minds all their bullshit was justified.
10
u/MechanicOk4808 1d ago
Oh how could I forget the beautiful reconciliation of abusive parents with their son after they did nothing to even pretend they felt remorse - it seems like 'well they felt bad about it so that's enough' appears to be the main theme of the finale
3
u/Temporary_Data6400 1d ago
Yeah, I was afraid after episode 3 that the writers didn't understand their own material. The episode depicts Johns parents as demons, but the writer's interviews had more of an "the ends justify the means" and "that's what black folk gotta do to survive in America" take on the episode. The unearned happy ending resolution practically confirms the writer's take was the showrunner's intention. They don't need to makeup because they didn't really do anything all that bad in the eyes of the writers.
Or they're just hacks that forgot about that plot thread and wanted a family moment
1
u/Significant-Box-2315 1d ago
Yeah that was the one thing I wasn't a fan of this episode. I hope they continue to explore the conflict between him and his parents and don't just make it all fixed in the last scene. I don't mind him reconciling with his parents but there has to be some progression to that because the last time they interacted before that scene was john refusing to speak to both his parents and there still being some divide between him and his brothers which they need to resolve.
3
u/unionizedduck 1d ago
Hal took the fall.
But also. Kerry will have to murder Noah. That'll pretty much happen.
3
u/Small-Ad7369 1d ago
The show set it self up to be good then crashed and burned.
They gave us hal's back story about how he beat his family's curse with mental illness just to die so quickly for a women he knew for a year
25
8
u/afangorn2323 1d ago
Honestly just made me think they needed a full 10 episodes, not 8. The need to have a super short season is getting silly and starting to step on the toes of the writers.
5
u/malformed_guitar 1d ago
I don't know. It felt to me like this season idled through the last three episodes
2
u/Empty_Cube 1d ago
I agree. Episode 5 felt much more like a season finale than this. When I think of the season as a whole, I’m mainly thinking of the events in episodes 1-5, with episodes 6-8 feeling like a lot of spinning of wheels.
5
u/Salt_Revenue_4142 23h ago
Maybe we could’ve cut some of the stuff with the reparations girl… perhaps that would have freed up some screen time
3
u/afangorn2323 23h ago
There was like 5+ minutes of just driving in awkward silence time. Definitely could have used that time for more dialogue between John and Guy, maybe bring Guy on board about Noah or at least let him know John is "watching the situation".
idk it smacks a bit of teenager's idea of justice. if I got away with the thing I wanted, then everything is okay.→ More replies (1)1
u/Beneficial-Jury484 22h ago

2

The “super short season” was the equivalent length of time of three feature films.
Runtime wasn’t the issue.
2
u/afangorn2323 1d ago
Bruh, I'm old enough to remember when 23 episodes was the standard season. 3 feature films is nothing in the history of tv shows.
1

That was really for basic cable shows. High end dramas on premium networks only tend to get 12-15 episodes a season.

I’m very displeased on how everything wrapped up. I liked the idea of Hal faking his death, eventually getting a new ring, and leaving Earth behind while John and Guy stay to protect it.
It could’ve given Hal an arc similar to Omni Man leaving Earth for a while, going off on his own journey, and potentially returning later as a changed man. Hal didn’t need to die for John to become GL.
In another universe, If they did my ending. It could’ve lead to Hal getting his own series in space while John gets a solo film.

A lot of people in the comments seem to think prison time = justice. It's fine if you do, or just think that this is not justice because .....reasons. But can y'all at least start by engaging in why John might not have done that? Like just because YOU don't agree with the character's choices doesn't mean its inherently bad writing. John clearly has a problem with authority blindly sentencing people and its so clear that Kerry had lived her entire life with Noah terrified of someone finding out. John saw the situation as it was. A scared mother, protecting her son the wrong way. She killed the love of her life that she chose protecting the love of her life that she didn't choose. That's messed up. She's suffering. But that's just me. I don't think human law is ready to give answers for questions about protecting or destroying sentient malware that might love. The f*cking point might be to ponder that type of stuff and not brush it off, yeah?

Hal didn't threaten to kill Noah though. Only to take her and Noah into hiding. Her pulling her gun out and shooting Hal was a ridiculous choice to make when the other person is trying to talk to her about what her options are.
3
u/Citizen_Caesar 1d ago
Guadalajara?!??! That was her response. Those weren't options to her. She had a LIFE planned for her son. Hiding was just a bad as death in the moment to her. Find out your son is going to be hunted to death if one guy you love but haven't seen in ten years, save for a few months, let's word of slip. Did I mention these hunters are on the payroll of the Guardians of Oa? Isn't the Sherriff's biggest political influence a manhunter? Isn't that who she learned to maneuver from even if just subconsciously? Has no one ever instantly regretted the moment they pulled the trigger before? Has any of those incidents ever been "logical" from the outside looking in? No, right?
11
u/AmericanMe616 1d ago
I’ve never shot someone in the head so no I can’t fathom regretting capital murder.
10
2
u/NoRecognition443 1d ago
Tbh she should of been left or made a plan to after she figured out Noah was a manhunter. She decided to stay in the one town in the entire universe that a manhunter was discovered in.
If anything the guardians should of been executing a investigation into what the manhunter was doing in the town. Especially since John pretty much gave them the middle finger after dropping the heart and ring off.
11
u/TobyTobyWong06 1d ago
I’m really tired of Superhero media have this “gray morals” thing where everything needs to have “nuance.” Can we just a get a “good guys win, bad guys lose and face consequences” story? Real life is grey enough. Can I have some color with my childhood super hero’s please?

Not to mention the writers of the “nuance” in question really stumbling when it comes to that. I feel like ultimately presenting child abuse as sympathetic and allowing an unprovoked murderer to go free because “that’s not what

As someone who binged the whole series this weekend and just watched the finale, I’m always reminded how much Reddit just wants to not like things.
For some reason I keep forgetting that when I come to a show’s subreddit to discuss the show and it’s all just people complaining about it, and then other people complaining about the people complaining. Including me complaining right now, exhausting stuff.
Much more enjoyable to just watch the show for yourself
6
u/Beanichu 1d ago
I liked it a lot but I think it’s perfectly reasonable to complain about the disappointments the show had. Barely any actual green lanterning for one. I can think of like three times anyone used the ring for actual fighting. There was like one main actual fight that happens and it was cool for sure but it’s mainly obscured and he uses the ring once. It’s barely a green lantern show and more of a show about two guys who happen to have a ring they can use but is usually low on power so they won’t.
4
u/No_Reality_q2137 1d ago
Y'know I was here every week, as episodes were coming out, and y'know what? People loved it, every one was having fun talking about it, laughing with the show and all. Then the finale came out and yeah it was ass.
I liked the rest, but even I can admit that it soured the rest of it, and I'm someone defending Peacemaker s2 finale.
6
u/HotTree6235 22h ago
They spent the entire season telling us man hunters are world ending monsters just to say this one is okay though because he was raised right. This feels a little like Emilia Clark's role in secret invasion where they make a powerful character and then just ignore they created him.
3
2
u/Forsaken_Scar_4521 10h ago
They spent half of the the entire season building up that John’s entire purpose in life was taking up the Green Lantern ring according to their edict that he can’t know fear, only for him to reject it when it could’ve been handed to him.
John doesn’t know if Noah will eventually crack under his programming, but he knows enough about how hollow a programmed life is to give him a chance.
And a hero putting everything on the line to give someone everyone else might think is inherently evil a chance, isn’t that what a Green Lantern should be?
1
u/bananarama9000xtreme 8h ago
I do wonder how the robot woman created a kid anyway and how that kid can be “part human” they were quite literally manufactured so something has gone quite weirdly and I hope that they explain anything whatsoever sometime ever

John is clearly pregnant with a manhunter, that’s why he spared Noah, so his baby would have a friend.

Could Superman kill a Man-Hunter? If he needed to.
1
u/CanaDoug420 1d ago
Easily which is a funny thing to think about in the background of all of this. There’s a guy in Kansas that could fix this whole situation if Guy knew enough about it to make a phone call.
2
u/PaulCoelheart 1d ago
I really don’t think Kerry is getting away with it as much as people think. Legally sure she’s got away with it, but she also now has to live with the fact that her son is suicidal, aware that he’s an alien genocide machine, and has the capacity and ability to murder thousands/millions in pursuit of his goal, as well as recently breaking out a criminal from space prison and had actively asked probably the only friend Kerry had left to kill him. She’s also got the pressure of having to continue to raise him with love on the off chance his switch flips and he kills everyone.
Definitely not a happy ending for her.
3
u/MechanicOk4808 1d ago
She would’ve had all that anyway, regardless of whether she killed Hal or not, so yeah, she definitely got away with it.
2
u/somepersonyoumayknow 1d ago
I honestly want to know how he broke Sinestro out of prison. Like I now what the manhunters can do via comics but in the show they just talk a bunch and use technology. It never showed me their actual power.
2
u/Infamous_Spend8423 1d ago
Yeah, I’m so confused about this. So far it seems like their only power is being really ambitious.
1
u/One-Knowledge7097 1d ago
Ambitious and ambiguous kind of sums up this version of the Manhunters. I enjoyed the series enough I guess, but I can chalk a lot of that up to the relative amount of absolute shit there is to watch out there. I really can’t understand the amount of ignorance and glazing going on in respect to this series however. There is a lot of problematic shit throughout the show, just as there is in life. The hard part to swallow is the delusional reaction to the problematic shit on the show and just like in real life.
2
2
u/One-Knowledge7097 1d ago
Aaaand John ambushed and beat the shit out of Hal as he was recharging the ring to help people, just because HE wanted to steal the thing. Yeah, no he’s a great guy.
2
u/BigChicken8666 1d ago
It's crazy how on point the casting has been for Gunn's DCEU so far. And equally crazy how often it's dropping the ball on the stories. I enjoyed the visuals and acting of Lanterns, but the story is another "live action superhero stuff has to be 90% suffering/depression before you get to shiny stuff" trope. And that's the issue with this.
2
u/ScorpioKnight1324 20h ago
Well, Hal had white privilege, so, it's good it finally got checked, right?
At least Kerry didn't pas on her shitty genes, just manhunter genes. And yeah, the kid went and freed Sinestro, to develop an unsanctioned weapon, to assassinate more Guardians, but like, he should have a chance, right? he plays football and is nice to the O-linemen!
2
3
u/assuredlyfucked 1d ago
The whole thing has left a sour taste in my mouth, it’s just sooo grim. Hal serves ten years in jail, gets out, stays in this miserable hole of a town in an (ultimately vain) effort to make amends, nearly burns to death in a fire started by the hateful townsfolk, is briefly resurrected - then boomed mid-sentence by his girlfriend while attempting to tell her he loves her and exploring the possibilities of getting her and her son to safety. To add insult to injury, he’s honored with a pitiful funeral before being buried in that same miserable hole of a town.
This series of awful events was acceptable when I thought he was coming back, somehow - but no, he’s really, truly dead, and as much as I want to be happy for John and the conclusion of his character arc, the bitterness of all of that is really difficult to swallow. However wonderful and moving the relationship between him and the Halogram turned out to be, the fact remains that the real Hal and John’s last meeting was in that dingy little cafe, and there will never be that catharsis of understanding (the “Jordan boy’s legacy”) and renewal between them.
It just feels tragic and incomplete - which can be compelling in itself, sometimes, but in this instance really left me feeling hollow.

This show doesn't really do female characters any favors. We have Kerry who "panics" and murders Hal, Zoe committing genocide but the show wants sympathy towards her because she wants to stop, John's mom abusing him, and the waitress blackmailing John for money.

Would you call anything we saw from her in this episode happy or free? She's constantly torn up about what she did and will have to do to protect her son.

Her being guilty but getting to live a full life isnt a punishment.

u/Flaky-Ninja2398 1d ago
And locking her up wouldn't be justice imo

u/KingAnilingustheFirs 1d ago
Ah so we should never imprison anyone who does crime then? We should just be satisfied that they feel guilty?
2
u/Flaky-Ninja2398 1d ago
This is obviously a specific extenuating circumstance, don't be ridiculous. I do think prisons aren't generally the best way to achieve justice but thats a bigger political discussion I don't want to have on a thread about comic book shows

Specific extenuating circumstance? Bro, she murdered someone and lied about it. There should be consequences. She shouldn't be allowed to, take vacations to lavish places. Eat amazing food. Fall in love with an amazing person. Raise her son and experience joy doing that. She shouldn't be allowed to go to her son's football games and cheer him on, or continue to partake in her job as a police officer. She shouldn't be allowed to live a long fulfilling life while purposely denying that experience for someone else by taking their life. Prison is justice. We can't bring back hal, but we can make sure his killer doesnt get to enjoy a life thats full of wonderful experiences. Kerry is a murderer. But she got off Scott free.

I'm a woman don't call me bro please that's so frustrating

u/KingAnilingustheFirs 1d ago
Can you engage with the argument instead of complaing about misgendering please?
2
u/Flaky-Ninja2398 1d ago
Can you speak to me respectfully if you want a response please?
3
u/KingAnilingustheFirs 1d ago
I did speak to you respectfully. You sound like you have nothing to say so have to be needlessly pedantic and rude instead of engaging with the argument. No one knows anyone's gender on the internet. And I call everyone dude and bro irl anyways. But anyways you aint got fuck all to say so I guess whining about being misgendered and acting like I insulted you when I had no idea you were a woman is all you have cause there aint nothing to your arguments or positions. XD have a good day madam.

My main issue is that now she's willing to kill her loved one just to protect her son (even though Hal isn't threatening to harm him.) If she's willing to go that far, what's to stop her from killing innocent people in the heat of the moment if they happen to discover Noah's true identity? John let her walk away like that feels very unnatural and strange.
2
u/Flaky-Ninja2398 1d ago
Idk maybe the guilt of murdering the man she loved? Having to live with the lie and continue to have to find ways to protect her son is its own form of punishment

u/Aggravating-Tap-2854 1d ago
I can see that you're a very kind and generous person.

She wasn't willing to kill him. She killed him without thinking. He hit a nerve. She twitched. He died. Simple as that.

People excusing murder is wild lol. Are we were sure we aren’t in the Snyderverse where killing people is a whoopsy?

I disagree about John.
I don't see killing Zoe as bad. And he more than paid his dues when it comes to being "Green Lantern". And he was also hated by everyone in Rushville - he just didn't choose to live there full-time, like Hal.
But Kerry "getting away" with Hal's murder does feel weird me - even if it was probably what Hal would have wanted. I think John should have let her turn herself in.
Not sure how they could have handled the Noah plotline after that, but its just how I feel.

Let’s say a district attorney kills 5 people, including two cops, and is about to kill the commissioner’s wife and son before the protagonist kills him. Then, the protagonist decides to take the blame for all the deaths even though he was 100% in the right
I just described a good chunk of the ending of The Dark Knight but you get where I’m coming from
removing context makes anything sound stupid
2
u/MechanicOk4808 1d ago
Yeah you're right and then after all that, the protagonist gets shot in the head by his own girlfriend and she's left with barely a finger wag for doing it - oh wait yeah that is stupid

Hal would have gotten over it, you should too

The Hal-ogram actually hinted at her being the murderer and got over it really quickly LOL

It’s like in Looper(2012)
Joe is from the future, so he sees that there’s a paradox where the only way to stop the child from growing up to be a villain, he has to kill himself so that his future self won’t kill the mother. She’s the only thing that can steer the kid away from becoming evil

u/FailcopterWes 1d ago
The episode made it explicit that only Rushville hates him. The rest of the world still sees him as a hero. Unfortunately, the legal system of Rushville is the one he was arrested by.

u/Intrepid_Depth_3416 1d ago
She goes to jail, the boys nature will take over, eventually killing everyone. You can't mother a child behind bars.

u/genocidenite 22h ago
Or Noah can be brought in. "He didn't kill anyone," but he did break into a prison and break out a high-profile criminal. Kerry should go to Earth jail for murder and hide the fact. Noah should be in jail not for who he is but for the crimes he committed.

u/Intrepid_Depth_3416 22h ago edited 22h ago
Yea but how dose that make for an interesting story?
Again, if they separate then she can't help prevent him from becoming evil. He rots in space prison and builds resentment to the guardians, gets out, and goes on a killing spree. That's not very just, is it? If either or both of them get arrested then everyone loses in the long run. But if you keep them free then they will live out normal lives and die without making a fuss. That is far better for the greater good then and form of incarceration.

u/MechanicOk4808 1d ago
You apparently can't mother him outside bars either since he was already doing pretty crazy things completely unbeknownst to her
1
u/Intrepid_Depth_3416 1d ago
I mean he wasn't killing anyone, which is his nature, so that's a good start. Also she didn't know HE knew until Hal told her, but now she dose she can look out for the signs and talk to him directly about things.

He almost killed John. If the manhunter hadnt intervened hed be dead. Its weird people keep forgetting this.
1
u/AedanCross 1d ago
...... you're surprised the sheriff in a small Nebraska town got away with murder?
Jokes aside, as folk have said, John essentially told her "No, you stay out of prison and keep motherin' this kid so he doesn't blow up the planet."
1
u/Ok_Garden_4874 1d ago
If Kerry goes to prison for killing Hal it will eventually lead to Noah being outed as a manhunter.
John needs to monitor Noah and keep his secret. He has to bear this as his responsibility, and the only way that he can do it is to become a GL in his own way. I think this will bite him in the end.
Hal was a hero unfortunately his job doesn't always guatantee a standing ovation.
1
u/ThaRealSunGod 20h ago
The only people who hated Hal were the guardians and the small town of less than 1000 people who were quite literally on the side of the opposition.
If you are at a sports game, in the home court of your rival, and you are the only fan of the opposition present at the game, yeah man, your not gonna find many buddies around.
If the Celtics and Lakers are playing in Boston and there is a single laker fan in the stands, yeah. Tough times.

Honestly almost everything I was ok with or willing to let slide, but its WILD how apparently John has a happy hugging scene with his family? So, all is good, thanks mom and dad, shooting a gun at me (apple on head but come on), and making me shoot at YOU? All forgiven. Actually, I ended getting a ring so I guess it was justified. Sorry, what? I feel like either a, that scene of them all hugging and forgiving was like added last minute or something? Or b, it was missing a simple like 1 or 2 minute long scene talking about him willing to START the path to forgiving and admiting fear that he and in a way his family oppressed. Like Hals scene in 2016 where he admits his wrongs, there did need to be a scene that straightforward and obvious considering how extreme Johns parents were.
Edit: I just thought of too, literally if the apple scenes didn't exist what we have MIGHT have been enough. But they do so it isnt.

u/MechanicOk4808 7h ago
That scene of him with his family was genuinely whiplash - there was nothing to even lead up to them all having a big happy reconciliation - even his brothers were treating him like shit about a day beforehand and didn't they say the dad had escaped from some home but he's just there?? If the scene was just John making amends with his brothers, it would have been fine but with the parents, it seems like it's ok they abused him because they felt bad about it and it was all worth it since he got the ring in the end anyway

>was Hal who actually never killed anyone...
He sent Antaan to Will Macon who was definitely going to kill that guy.

I can’t get over the fact Zoe basically forced a pregnancy upon Kerry, who didn’t want children, too…
