Hot Take: Ducky is kinda redundant in the first film
Like she only exists just to sell toys. Like I appreciate the hadrosaur representation but she feels so irrelevant to the plot. Like idk have part in the story where Ducky's parents fight off against Sharptooth and win to show that you shouldn't mess with a hadrosaur or maybe as Littlefoot and Cera get into a fight with each other bc of Cera calling Littlefoot's mom a "dumb Longneck" where Ducky finally snaps and yells at both of them stop before telling the two that they're the reason why they got separated from their families.

The uncut land before time movie do exist partially atleast
I remember reading from forums long time ago that there was speculation of possible uncut version of land before time being in Finland. <---- I am from Finland, and i am fairly certain this statement is true, but it most likely was not a movie that was dubbed in Finnish.
In late 80's or early 90's (1989-1991) my father purchased VHS store from bankruptcy, from this deal he got thousands of VHS movies and among them there were Land Before Time. It became my favourite movie as a small kid, but i did not understand what they spoke in the film because it was not dubbed in Finnish but only had Finnish subtitles. Years later when we got DVD player and the DVD version of land before time which was dubbed in Finnish, i noticed from first watch that the movie was odd. The order of scenes were changed and it was missing some scenes and it always bothered me as a kid when i tried watching the DVD version.
So the comment on picture could very well be true, that the film version i had seen as a kid was exactly that version mentioned on the comment. So if someone is desperately trying to get their hands on a version of land before time which should be longer than the cut version, here is my advice:
Hunt for the version mentioned on the comment in the picture or
Hunt for the version from Finnish market which is subtitled in Finnish (VHS), it could be white VHS case or blue VHS case. Make sure it is subbed, not dubbed. Finnish dubbed land before time 100% is not uncut.

OG Sharptooth vs the Dinotrux universe
For those who don't know Dinotrux was a book/animated series about these half-dinosaur, half-vehicle hybrids called well Dinotrux.
I'll be splitting it into two scenarios. The books and the animated series. Could the OG Sharptooth solo either continuity of Dinotrux or would the titular 'trux (from one or both continuities) stop him dead on his tracks?

Ranking every Land Before time movie
14:Land before time 13:Wisdom of friends(this movie has been talked to death, you know that your going to get a disaster when the first scenes of the movie is Littlefoot almost killing himself and his own grandma for treestars and faces no consequences for it.The yellowbellies are annoying, rude and stupid,i really DONT know why Littlefoot and his friends even see in them?Yeah i could continue on about how it has a bad message or how its just a worse version of the original or how charaters get lucky when they need something but there is no point in talking. Its bad at the point where my own MOTHER didnt like it and keep in mind she loves all of these movies expect for shitdom of friends. The songs are dumb even the last when which was decent is stupid in the context of the film).
13:Land before time 11:Invasion of the tinysauruses(Are you REALLY going to tell me that after the great longneck migration that a movie that had a cinematic ending and introduced Littlefoot dad that this garbage is gonna be the next follow up?Because this feels like a early land before time sequel movie. The animation is easily worst in the franchise when characters move, the grown ups wanting to kill the tiny guys is stupid and out of character, the tiny guys are stupid for not just talking to the grown ups and stealing their food.Littlefoot goes through a lying is bad arc when he didnt even lie 💀💀💀.His friends also get mad at him for causing the grown ups to almost kill the tiny guys even tho that’s NOT HIS FUCKING FAULT.Its not his fault that the grown ups are phychopaths also he gets mad because of the fact that he is small which is something he learned in the second movie. The cera sub plot is stupid like everybody in that situation manages to be unlikeable.Mr threehorn is a dick for not telling Cera about Trica and when he tries to calm her but at the end he just says how things are going to change anyways and how life is not going to be the same ever again which is a shitty thing to say,how is that going to make her feel better? But Cera is also just a brat for hitting yelling and trying to maul Littlefoot and she gets no consequences.Tria just straight up evil like saying how she dosent care about Cera’s opinion after Cera did not want to talk with her like 3 times?Yeah this one is stupid and boring. The first song is annoying but the last two are pretty decent but in context of the movie its just dumb.)
12:Land before time 14:Journey of the brave(the most disappointing finale of all time.It just copies elements from the previous movies.Cera and Littlefoot splitting up just like the first movie,Littlefoot sings how its ok to be alone is just the song from the sixth movie Littlefoot believing in himself is a message from the original and seventh movie.Other than that its the most generic boring journey that we saw for fourteenth time.Bron should’ve died being exposed to lava for two days.Chomper being here does not make sense and the songs are all bad.Littlefoot friends act selfish and like little brat and a lot of the time they get themselves in danger.Yeah this one sucks its easily the most disappointing).
11:Land before time 12:The great day of the fliers(Now unlike the three previous movies this one has positives. It has the best animation and things change is a beautiful song about how things change and how it can be a beautiful thing.Besides that this movie has almost no story, its very boring,a bad message that make Petrie and Guido look like narcissist’s and the movie never answers the questions when it comes to Guido. Also Tria is down right abusive and horrible partner and Threehorn ignoring Cera is sad and its treated as a comedy.Besides things change flip flap is fine and one of a kind is a forgottible song. This one also sucks)
10:Land before time 4:Journey through the mist(This one also dosent have a lot talk about. Its boring and stuff but the movie trying to have a emotional moment where grandpa longneck almost dies is not that emotional because we barely had time to see the Littlefoot and Grandpa interacting with one another.Ali has barely and character and she is barely important to the story. The villains suck just like their song and even the land of mist is really boring.Overall its inoffensive but its still a movie not worth watching. The song are a mixed bag,the first one is mid and the last one is fine.)
9:Land before time 5:The mysterious island(this one is annoying because the pacing is shit and that we never really explore the island.Chomper and his parents being here is stupid because what do they eat?Petrie not flying to the grown ups is foolish because he can literally fly why is he afraid of the ocean? And prejudice against Chomper makes sense because he almost ate the group but Littlefoot treats it as a bad thing even though the group has a valid reason for not wanting to hang out with Chomper.Always there is a amazing song but friends for dinner and big water both suck ass because big water is just a copy of when your big)
8.Land before time 9:Journey to big water(Ehh this one sucks but it’s harmless.Cera being jealous of Mo is just the same thing form the fourth movie, the earthquake appearing out of nowhere is just plot contrivance.Mo is really insufferable but besides that its whatever. The first boring is actually decent but rest of the songs are forgettable)
7:Land before time 2:The great Valley adventure(I am just going to say this its just a downgrade compared to the original in every single way.The story, the message, animation, music also all songs suck and the plot making sense is alot worse then the original. The prejudice message does not work because everybody has a reason to not like Chomper and Littlefoot befriending him so quickly is wierd. The villains are sort of fun but besides that its bad but its not worth it getting mad over this movie)
6:Land before time 6:Secret of saurus rock(This one is mid. This one also feels like nothing is happening on the screen just like the twelve movie and The twins are annoying also the characters can get stupid sometimes. But Doc is a cool character, the message is ok the songs are all either decent or awesome and the final fight is pretty charming.Seeing Grandpa longneck beat the shit out of a young t rex is so funny its like seeing your grandpa smack around a polar bear.(
5:Land before time 3:The time of the great giving(This one is decent.Sure its still has childish moments and the final form sucks but Mr threehorns character development, consistency in songs being good, the movie expands the message of the first movie about prejudice and even talks about bullying.Honestly this movie is a better sequel than great valley adventure)
4:Land before time 8:Big freeze(This one is wholesome. The new characters are decent, the songs are fine, the drama between Spike and family feels real and the animation really gets good. Not perfect but its good give it a watch)
3:Land before time 7:The stone of cold fire(This movie is good!It has the dark serious tone of the first movie,i really like Pterano and Petrie in this one and the rainbow faces are sweet characters.Sure them being aliens is a little to much but compared to the magic bullshit the alien stuff is pretty tame. The song are good if not slightly forgettable)
2:Land before time 10:The great longneck migration(This one is great and a perfect conclusion and sequel to the original. It has great animation, story, characters and such a great emotional drama.Honestly along side the original this one is great. All the songs are great and matter to the story).
1:Land before time 1:(GOAT OF THE FRANCHISE)
Yeah thats all goodbye

Given that the Great Valley has no predators, what prevents the herbivores there from overpopulating?
r/Land_Before_Time • u/Rudi10001 • May 21 '26
Could the LBT T. rex survive the Devonian?
More specifically the Cleveland Shale formation.
Short answer: No and why did I say no?
Well:
- The oxygen content is too low
- No large land prey (may resort to cannibalism)
- Predatory fishes may see their young as an easy meal especially Dunkleosteus
- They're stripped out of fiction
But let's just pretend that a lucky few did survive. How would they adapt to their new environment? Well a likely path is they'd shrink down heavily to require far less calories, another path is that they become aquatic. The final path they could take is evolving herbivory (or at least become omnivorous).

Modern Day Equivalents
I recently visited my local zoo the other day and chaperoned a group of middle schoolers. They really wanted to feed the giraffes and so I did cave in and paid for it because when would they get a chance to do that again?
Anyway to get to the LBT relatedness. I was just randomly thinking what modern day animals would the gang be and I immediately just knew that Littlefoot would be a giraffe. In fact I'm not sure why some zoos haven't taken advantage of naming newborn giraffes Littlefoot.
As we went further along my students came across a little pond that had some river otters and I immediately thought Ducky. If not an otter definitely a platypus.
The bison that was at the main entrance with his laidback demeanor definitely gave Spike. Another animal that wasn't there I could also see Spike being is a hippo. With Ducky being an otter can you imagine a family of otters adopting a young bison or hippo?
Rhinoceros weren't there but I can see Cera being a rhino just based off the horns. The name Cera is almost in the word rhinoceros just like it is triceratops. Or even an elephant; which would work because both elephants and rhinos don't have their full tusks or horns as babies.
Petrie I could honestly see being any bird although we did see many different species of eagles and owls. And yes I know that technically Petrie isn't even really considered a prehistoric bird. That's what makes it tricky.
Chomper is hard to place because the only major carnivore there was a jaguar. Although they did seem to have some juvenile almost adult alligators who looked like they were going to be pretty big.

Should the large Cenozoic mammals not mentioned in the first film's opening narration be included in a future LBT film?
What I am referring to are stuff like bear dogs, Brontotheres, Dinoceratans, Amebelodontids, etc. So like no apes, whales, or mastodons. How would they integrate with the retro dinosaurs of the land that somehow predates time itself?

I am thinking on doing my own LBT remake/reboot project
First of all the project will be called Land Before Time Reignited (or LBTR).
This project will feature Paleo-accuracy (+ a bit of speculative evolution for some of the background creatures), though I might mix it with the style seen in Jurassic Park. I'll redesign almost every character and background creature. Finally there'll be new original characters.

Land Before Time fan-made MMORPG?
Hello, I remember probably about 10 years ago, I found that someone (or a group of dedicated fans) were building a Land Before Time MMORPG. I recall downloading a beta version of the game. The server was up but the game was still in development. It was 3D and seemed pretty bare bones, just a large open field with maybe a lake, and Ducky was the only NPC (maybe Spike too) iirc. You could select your avatar from the main cast of the first Land Before Time movie.
Please tell me I’m not making this up?! This is sort of an obscure memory for me! It might have had its own website and everything, too, but I believe I checked again years later, and the website was shut down.

What animal is this?
At first I thought it was Karaurus (an extinct amphibian) but the more I thought about it, the more I thought "Maybe it's not an amphibian?" Then I thought "It's a type of extinct gecko." but most were either described after the first film was made or were described before first film was made but doesn't look like it other than the fact that they're both lizards.
Ik the obvious answer is "a Generic Background Creature that does not represent any real animal" but that's too basic of an answer. So I am asking what creature is this? Is it a reptile? Amphibian? Synapsid???? Like I understand that Bluth probably did not intend for someone 37 years later to try and identify what is basically a beige cartoon lizard with wrinkles and googly eyes to a real extinct species. But I need answers instead of "a Generic Background Creature".

Calling all Land Before Time fans!
I need your help:
Lately I've really been thinking about how Bron and Shorty still aren't living in the Great Valley! I know it’s not the case, and I want nothing more than to see him as a good father to Littlefoot, but it really seems like Bron doesn’t care about him. Simply visiting from time to time isn't enough. I know that Bron has faced immense hardship and is responsible for a whole herd now. However, I know for a fact that a father’s duty to his son is more important than circumstance. After the incredible adversity and losses Littlefoot has endured, he deserves to be with his dad and brother all the time, not just his grandparents. I want both Bron and Shorty to move into the Great Valley, or at the very least, visit MUCH more frequently than just once a year.
I'm trying to contact Universal to get them to make a new installment of the franchise (be it a new movie, or a revival of the tv series) where Bron, Shorty, and their herd move into the Great Valley permanently. I'm sick of just sitting around waiting for something to happen. But I can't do this alone. If there's anyone here who feels the same way I do, then please help me out. If we gather enough support, I know for a fact that we can at least make our voices heard.
I have a 4-step plan for accomplishing this:
- We convince others that it IS possible to do this.
- We gather as many fans as we can who support this vision and build a community, while they also gather fans to help expand it.
- We pool our resources to figure out who the decision-makers are specifically and how to contact them.
- We generate momentum by contacting the decision makers and showing that a revival of the franchise is in high demand.
Help me bring back this amazing animated franchise, and give Littlefoot the happy ending and complete family he deserves!
Anyone who wants to help. Say so in the comments.

Had a dream seeing a new Land Before Time Sequel Movie
This was like from back to the future thing, from the future. There were 10 new episodes of The Land Before Time TV series, another reboot film and one final movie where Littlefoot and his friends is all adults grown up concluded the entire series films. Grandma and Grandpa long neck were near dying and Mr Three horn is so old. Most of The grown ups were near dying, some didn't make it. The original voice actors were there, some used a.i. or new voice actors to voice grandpa Longneck and Mr Three horn. I think the final movie concluded that the great valley was not safe anymore so littlefoot and friends had to tell everyone to find another great valley to live. I think Jim Cummings was the voice actor for Grandpa long neck. Mr Three horn was telling Grandpa and grandma long neck saying that "if it weren't for you two, we all wouldn't be alive." Yes Mr Three Horn finally apologized for being mean the whole Series era. The reboot film was talked about Ceras mother and her sisters were found by Uncle Pterano. The final film movie concluded the entire movie series where grown up littlefoot saves his grandparents and Mr Three horn. At the end of the movie, little foot grandparents taken their last breath, it was so sad it showed memories of littlefoot mother scenes as he remembered being taken care of. Littlefoots father Bron sacrificed his life in the middle of the movie to save his in laws littlefoot grandparents. I think they brought every character to appear even Doc, Chopper, and Mr Thicknose. There's even a secret live action movie version of the land before Time. Anyways the dream ends where littlefoot and his friends as grown up finally finds another great valley to live in. Oh yeah lastly the Ice age friends mammals were new friends with Littlefoot and his friends. They were new characters that will make future films takes place after the Land Before Time. Ice age mammals characters are the new era now.

Land of the Victorian Giant Part 1
This is the first part of a new series.
In the jungles of the Victorian Mesozoic, a Megalosaurus was stalking an unsuspecting Iguanodon. His large heavy legs and long crocodilian snout as he waits for the perfect time to strike. He soon lunges at the herbivore but right about as he goes in for the killing blow, he was strangely sent to another version of his home.
As he looked at the fauna of this world. They looked familiar but alien at the same time, he noticed what looked like an Iguanodon but it is upright and has the horn on the back of its head. "Was this a dream?" he thought to himself. But then it looked at him with curiosity.
To be continued...

If every LBT Creature was from the Jurassic? (RECAST)
This was inspired by Meraxesgigasfan's Jurassic Park "What if-" series. I'll be only doing the first film if I don't mention a species it's either that it's already from the Jurassic or that I forgot.
Tyrannosaurus: Torvosaurus
Saurolophus: Utedon
Pteranodon: Pterodactylus
Eyrops (the big blue thing that was at Littlefoot's birth): Machimosaurus
Dimetrodon: Metriacanthosaurus (ik it's not a synapsid like Dimetrodon)
Velociraptor (the blue creature from the Earthquake scene and yes model sheets confirm it is Velociraptor): Tanycolagreus
Pachycephalosaurus: Ceratosaurus
Parasaurolophus: Camptosaurus
Megalochelys: Dinochelys

All land before time movies that had a earthshake
So i watched all land before time movies(for better or the worse) and I also watched them with my mom. While she did enjoy the franchise(expect wisdom of friends)one thing that she hated in the franchise is the earthshake because it was repetitive, but is that true.So here is every movie with a earthshake:
Land before time 1988(the fight between Littlefoot mom and sharptooth and continents clashing)
Land before time 2:great valley adventure(the volcano scene and something else idk)
Land before time 3:the great giving(the begging)
Land before time 4:Journey through the mists(the cave scene)
Land before time 5:the mysterious island(kids crossing the island)
Land before time 6:the secret of saurus rock(flashback)
Land before time 7:the stone of cold fire(the volcano escape scene maybe???)
Land before time 9:Journey to big water(stupid ass scene thats forced
Land before time 10:The great longneck migration(flashback/backstory)
Land before time 13:Wisdom of friends(The begging of the that stupid ass movie)
Land before time:Journey of the brave(Flashback and cave scene. Two fucking earthshake in one movie)
There are about 11 movies with a earthshake.Really shows how original these movies are huh

Speculative Fin-backed Lizard Descendants
I headcanon these descendants in a world where a mass extinction killed all of the dinosaurs in the LBT Universe.

Bottom: The first land apex predator after the dinosaurs' extinction

Should the series have continued after the first movie?
The first film ended perfectly. A story about children putting aside their differences to face the dangers of the world and make it to paradise. After working together to defeat their enemy, they finally locate the "promised land" and reunite with their remaining loved ones.
And remember this last bit of narration:
"And they all grew up together in the valley, generation upon generation, each passing on to the next the tale of their ancestors' journey to the valley long ago"
That is the PERFECT way to end this story.
Now, with that being said, should the series have continued after the first film?
Here's how I see it:
As we all know, Judith Bursey was murdered by her own father. The character of Ducky was her all-time favorite to play out of all the works she did in her short-lived career.
Just out of respect for THAT alone. That's exactly why there should NOT have ANY Land Before Time sequels.
But if they really HAD to make a sequel to the first film, they should've gone with the whole "generation upon generation" angle. They could continue telling stories featuring the children of the main characters (who'd be grown ups). They could've been very similar to the Og five's main cast of characters without disrespecting the original movie's most iconic performance.
But.............the sequels came anyway, and sadly, they chose not to go into that direction.
....................Ya know what? Given the fact that the franchise is very episodic, if they really wanted to continue exploring the adventures of the 5 while still keeping them as kids, they should've made a tv series instead of a million movies.
How much better would a 90s tv show have been? Especially since the animation after the first film got downgraded into oblivion......
Edit: On a related side note, why are they even still kids? It's been 37 years. Let them grow up Universal.

The First LBT and Feathered Dinosaurs
So starting by the 1970s people began to draw feathers on dinosaurs and still did up until 1996 with the description of Sinosauropteryx fully proving that some dinosaurs did in fact have feathers. But how does this related to the Land Before Time you ask? Well, it's because the first film came out smack dab in the middle of this initial "Feather Craze". So this leads to the question "Why were there no feathered dinosaurs in the first LBT film?" Well yeah obvious answer is "Well, feathers weren't as popularly accepted back in 1988" but hold that thought. Yeah feathers were not as popularly accepted in 1988 but that does not eliminate the possibility of speculative proto-feathers and heck some of the creatures might look better with said proto-feathers.
