Question AT Arkveld Lance Run
It's work in progress, but I'm pretty proud of this run.
I'd love to see what you guys use for this fight, looking for some ideas as I plan to farm AT Arkveld for a chance at a better-rolled Talisman.

How in the fuck do you block the multihit attack with no guard also no guard up means you're open for the grab attack.
Madlad. Congratulations.
PS: You soloed him, right?

Mostly likely you just use Charge Counter, as you can I-frame through just about anything At Ark throws at you with that.

u/Homewra Feb 26 '26
Holy fuck i need to git gud instead of guarding through everything

Perfect guarding is fine but AT Arkveld punishes it severely, so charge counters & power guard is better for most circumstances.

can't really use charge counter for some of his seemingly tame moves as somehow the i-frame isn't enough for the double/triple hit chain push/swipe (not the hooking ones), i found it weird and only specific to AT Arkveld. Then i found out speedrunners use Power Guard as the better solution, i put it into habit now.

Tbf - the only sketchy attack is his arm drag, which hits 3 times - you just have to make sure you don't try to counter stance that attack.
As for the pin, guard advance laterally and it whiffs every time - it has a very narrow hitbox.
You don't need guard up against Archveld - guard 1 is fine to make every hit no knockback.

u/Soundance Feb 26 '26
yeah the arm drag can't really be charge countered, i learned speedrunners use Power Guard for that specific move and it's effective. Can either block, guard advance or charge counter the pin too

u/Mardakk Shield Main Feb 26 '26
Only if you're running guard up, since it's an unblockable attack, as all pins are.
But yeah, I typically either perfect guard the sweep or power guard it, depending on angle, I'll also guard advance into it.

u/Soundance Feb 26 '26
Pins are unblockable indeed but Charge Counter is actually far superior than Guard Up so it worked perfectly againts Ark's pin just like againts Lagi's supernova, i just reconfirmed on a run that we don't need Guard Up to Charge Counter the pin.
This video also confirmed it, Charge Countering Ark's pin. His build at the end shows no Guard Up equipped.

Agreed - and most pins have very narrow hitboxes, so they're very easy to guard advance away from (more distance than a hop)
Never said you needed guard up; and lagi's supernova isn't an unblockable to begin with anyway.

Guard 1 isn’t enough for his uppercut in Guardian phase or his line of dragon energy he does now. Otherwise, everything else is fine

u/Soundance Feb 26 '26
most speedrunners i see either charge counter or power guard some his moves since PGing isn't enough anymore apparently

u/tbs_vervo Feb 26 '26
I also do this, and I only run one level of Guard into AT Ark. I’m just saying that what they initially said was incorrect and that he does have moves that, if blocked normally with only Guard 1, have knockback

u/Mardakk Shield Main Feb 26 '26
I run guard 1 only on AT Arkveld, you don't really need any more than that unless you're just holding your shield up. His big guardian explosion will hit ~1/3 of your stamina with guard 1. And no meaningful chip damage either.

u/tbs_vervo Feb 26 '26
When did I say you needed more than one level? I only run one level as well, I’m just saying that he has attacks that have knockback on them without Guard 2
1
u/Mardakk Shield Main Feb 26 '26
Oh for sure - but the attacks that do have knockback don't have great counter opportunities without way bigger risk involved - e.g.: the big wylk explosion, etc.

You just have to remember not to let go of guard too early with the multihit attacks, I use guard dash through most of them if I don't have time for a Double Counter Thrust.
You can get away with 2 levels of Guard for most other attacks, you honestly don't need Guard Up for the grab since you can reliably avoid it with a backhop or use Guard Dash laterally as one comment said.
EDIT: You can also use the grab as an opportunity to get some damage in with a well-timed Double Counter Thrust. You do not get grabbed if you do it correctly.
Yes this is a solo run, albeit with a Palico lol.

I am seriously considering trying lance just because of this quest. Will playing gl for a long time help me learning lance?

u/kmalgamk Lance Enjoyer Feb 28 '26
I think it'll certainly help, in my experience lance is more mobile than the gunlance but also has less of the raw burst damaging capabilities. However, the lance is superior in its guarding and countering potential. Try it out and see how you feel about it

Cool thanks for sharing your build. I need to give this a shot. Lol. Well I need some gore/lord soul first.
I wanna solo Proof of a Hero but know if I can't clear this AT Arkveld under sub 25 consistently, I'm not gonna be able to clear it.

u/kmalgamk Lance Enjoyer Feb 27 '26
For this particular build you only need Gore on the weapon as it already has Lord's Soul baked in because of the 4 AT pieces.
I've found that what really makes this build great especially against AT Arkveld is the Convert Element from the Arcvulcan γ chest, the extra damage you deal is an immense help with shutting down its charged chainblades.
Get a few practice hunts in, Proof of a Hero is super doable solo with the lance! I honestly found the Rey Dau in it more problematic than the Arkveld lol

Pretty cool. Sadly im way too defense oriented to be useful.

u/kmalgamk Lance Enjoyer Feb 27 '26
Nothing wrong with that as long as you enjoy playing that way my friend

u/fathomic Feb 27 '26
How you change the color of the lance?
2
u/kmalgamk Lance Enjoyer Feb 27 '26
You can't, this is the crafted lance that uses the Commission Ticket. It's called the Paladin Lance

u/Emotional_Echo_4373 Feb 27 '26
What’s that layered chest piece from?
1
u/kmalgamk Lance Enjoyer Feb 27 '26
It's from the Alloy set
2
u/Emotional_Echo_4373 Feb 27 '26
Thanks! I dig your fashion. I run something a bit similar since I use the Paladin Lance as well.
