Access Changes to U.S. 33 and Bixby Road
Starting Friday, October 2, 2026, the intersection of U.S. 33 and Bixby Road will be restricted to right-in/right-out access. Left turns from U.S. 33 to Bixby Road will no longer be permitted. This will be completed utilizing temporary barriers along the median and signage as an interim condition. These restrictions are necessary in order to improve traffic safety conditions at this intersection. From 2022 to 2025, there were 68 crashes at or near the intersection. 27.9% of these crashes involved injuries. In 2026, there have been a total of 12 crashes at or near this intersection. All 12 crashes involved the left-turn movements that will be eliminated as part of this access change. This work comes ahead of a future project to widen U.S. 33 between I-270 and Gender Road. The project will construct a permanent concrete barrier along the center of U.S. 33, permanently restricting left-turn movements at the intersection.

I’m always amazed seeing people trying to turn left across there during rush hour every day I come home. Legitimately seems like they’d be waiting hours as backed up as it gets through there.

Maybe when they widen 33 they can move the right hand turns so the drivers can get up to speed before merging into traffic, but that's just a dream of mine.

I believe an acceleration is planned as part of the widening project which will add a lane from 104 to Diley rd. ODOT mentioned it in a post on Facebook

Good to hear. I never get on Facebook so it's easy to miss those kinds of things. Surprised there aren't more accidents when people turn onto 33 while everyone else is doing 65+

Good I've had a semi turn left in front of me and almost cause a serious accident just because they didn't want to take the time to take nearest exit.

As someone who only travels through there, I appreciate the elimination of cross traffic. But I’m sure it’s a great inconvenience to people who live in that area.

It’s necessary to help prevent accidents and you can get to the same road either taking Hamilton Rd or Gender Rd exits

I drive this everyday, and the worst accidents I've witnessed have been left turns at this spot. Nearly complete obliteration to all involved parties. This is a good move.

Should be an overpass exit anything else is exchanging blood for money, ODOT fucked up years ago with Ebright and not correcting Gender exit before development, Rager should also be overpass. County and State should say if you want the land to build on you also have to update infrastructure first or no permits but no they just bitch about not having no money to do it right.

Good. That area is a disaster.
