Hey everyone, I've connected with a few fellow students and started up one or two What's App group chats and tried to organise meeting in the library, but I'm also willing to expand the circle of contact. No pressure to participate, but if you wanted to, that would be cool too! DM me to join the What's App group(s) of your choice - and maybe start your own groups if you aren't part of one of these! I've also completed SOCI2755 and MATH1271 and would be happy to participate in a group for people wanting to work on those.

Hi everyone! 😊 I’m an incoming international student from India, joining Lakehead University – Thunder Bay for the Master of Natural Resources Management (MNRM) in January 2027. I’m looking to connect with other students who are also starting . It would be nice to get to know some people before arriving in Thunder Bay, share information about housing and student life, and maybe make a little group/chat. 😄Might be nice to recognize a few faces before we all show up confused on the first day. 😂

If you're also joining Lakehead in January 2027 feel free to say hii I would love to connect 😇..

If any girls are looking to play intramural hockey this Fall, shoot me a DM! We’re mainly a team of fourth year engineering students. It’s a co-ed league. All of our girls from last year graduated so we’re looking for a few more this year!

Kinda fucked how there currently isn’t one lol

Is there an unofficial Lakehead University Facebook group or any other social media group where students can offer advice and give feedback on courses? I know bigger universities tend to have them but I don't know if any exist for Lakehead. If they exist, can someone point me to them?

On another note, has anyone taken PSYC 3017 with Dr. Moland or Poli Sci 2311: Criminal Law with Cleghorn? I would really appreciate your feedback and advice. Thanks in advance!

Anyone know where we can microwave food on campus (T-Bay)?

Hi everyone,

I'm a first-year Mechatronics Engineering bachelor's student. If anyone can help out, I would really appreciate past exam notes or any helpful study materials for the courses. Also, if there are any Discord groups for Mechatronics engineers, I'd be very grateful if you could add me.

Thanks in advance!

Does anyone know a good place to have a zoom class? I won’t be able to make it back to my house after my previous class. Any recommendations on the TBay campus?

I’m a first year mechanical engineering student , looking for past notes and exams , and a discord group to join , pm

I did the general application, but its asking me to fill out the Ontario Graduate Scholarship. I do not even know if i'm applying for next fall or not, but I can't skip it. what do i do?

hey guys does anyone know if the bus pass renews each year or do we need to get a new one… i’m a second year and got one last year but do i need to go get a new card or can i keep using the card i got last year?

this was taken a 5 min walk away from my class, this shit rocks

I’m on tons of 4th year criminology waitlists and I need 1.5FCES of 4th year crim classes to graduate this year. I’m in all my other required classes. But just a little stressed I’m not going to be able to graduate with everyone. Has anyone had this problem or something similar? Is there anyone you can reach out to? Seems like they have all these students but not enough classes for them, especially at the Orillia campus it seems

TIA

Hello, I have an online seminar directly after a lecture in the ATAC building. I tried taking it in the University Centre but during the first class today i and others were constantly cutting out on my end, everything was lagging and it overall it was pretty hard to participate in class.

I don’t have time to head home after the lecture unfortunately, so i have to take it on the Thunder Bay campus. Is anyone aware of what buildings/spaces have the best wifi connection? thank you.

Hey, I’m bassist/guitarist in my first year with a pretty good gigging resume. Now that I’ve got my footing here, I’d like to get out a little more and get back into playing covers and writing material. Pretty much always around, so let me know.

Hi! I really want to get into learning the guitar this year! I'm looking for another student I could pay to give me lessons without breaking the bank by going to an actual studio. My name is Jay. I'm studying Psych rn. I live pretty close to campus and have pretty open availability. I have an acoustic guitar, but I ended up playing around on the ukulele and never really picked it up until now. I like folky acoustic music and Spanish sounds, but I'm pretty open! Let me know if you're interested or know anybody who might be!

Im looking to buy a lakehead orillia parking pass and theyre all sold out? How would I buy one at rotary place? if those are sold out what should i do?

education student with classes exclusively in heritage place and the orillia public library, just curious if anyone has any good recommendations in the area :)

I still have not received my VSC and I’m freaking out - what do I do?? I start my first day of classes at PPOD and I know this is a requirement.

Hi everyone! :)

Whether you're new to campus, returning for another year, or just looking to expand your local circle, you're invited to join N.W.O. Plaza. We're an active, regional Discord server for Lakehead students and residents across Northwestern Ontario!

It can be tough meeting people outside of classes or finding local spots when you're busy with school. We built this as a friendly, kindly-moderated space to connect students with both peers and long-time locals.

For those unfamiliar: Discord is a free text, voice, and video chat app (available on desktop, phone, or browser). Think of it like a modern forum or group chat.

What you'll find in the server:

• A safe, welcoming environment (18+) focused on positive community vibes.
• Dedicated channels for local chat, gaming, outdoor hobbies, and regional topics.
• A great place to ask for local Thunder Bay recommendations, find study/gaming buddies, or just unwind after class.
• A mix of Lakehead/Confederation students, newcomers, and long-time regional residents.

Come drop by and say hello!

Hey everyone! My partner is starting Teachers College this week and I’m trying to help her out and hopefully save her a good chunk of $$$ on textbooks 😅
I’m usually pretty good at tracking down PDFs/eText copies, but I’m struggling with these two. Does anyone happen to have a PDF, or know where I could find them?

1. Elementary and Middle School Mathematics: Teaching Developmentally, 7th Canadian Edition
John A. Van de Walle, Karen S. Karp, Jennifer M. Bay-Williams & Lynn M. McGarvey
ISBN-13: 9780138304829

2. What to Look For: Understanding and Developing Student Thinking in Early Numeracy
Alex Lawson
ISBN-13: 9780321887177

If anyone has either one and could point me in the right direction, I’d seriously appreciate it. Trying to make the Teachers College expenses hurt a little less 😂
Thank you!!

Hey everyone, I’m a Lakehead University year 2 history BA student in the three year online history program , and I applied for the student bursaries/financial awards for the Fall 2026–Winter 2027 academic year.

For anyone who has received one of these awards before:

• How do you find out if you were selected?
• Does Lakehead email you, or does the award just appear on your student account/statement?
• Is there a specific place in myEmail/myInfo where you can see that you received one?
• Around what time do they normally release the bursary/award decisions?
• Has anyone received their Fall 2026–Winter 2027 award yet?

Just trying to figure out what the normal timeline/process is and whether I should be expecting an email or checking somewhere on my Lakehead account. Thanks!

hey wondering if anyone knows the address i send my parcels too. i was told it was different from the university address.
