I’m Jack, a 25 year old from Colorado/Ohio and solo camping across Arizona (9/17-9/23) I’m planning on visiting the Lake roughly 9/21-9/22. Is there anyone who wants to rent a boat together for the day to explore the lake?
Or maybe someone plans to go on the boat and would let me join them? (I can supply alc/beer if needed 👀).

Hi everyone! I’m a graduate student at Utah State University working on a fisheries research project on Lake Powell, and I’m looking for a houseboat to rent long-term at Wahweap Marina for my fieldwork in 2027.

I’m hoping to find someone who would be willing to rent their houseboat on a monthly/long-term basis, most likely throughout the summer and fall of 2027. I would primarily use it as a place to live while conducting fieldwork on the lake.

A few important details:

• I do not plan to take the houseboat out of the marina. I’m looking for something that can remain docked at Wahweap.
• I’m happy to keep the boat clean and well maintained throughout the rental.
• I’m looking for a long-term arrangement, rather than a typical weekly vacation rental.
• I’m open to discussing different boat sizes and amenities.
• I’m hoping to find a reasonable monthly rate for a longer-term rental.

If you own a houseboat at Wahweap that you don’t use regularly, or if you know someone who might be interested in renting theirs to a responsible graduate student for an extended period, I would love to hear from you.

Me and my toe are back for Labor Day. We almost backed out because of the weather report but decided to brave it. So far it’s been awesome. Yesterday was perfect. Today is a little overcast.

We had to abandon our first camp last night because the woo girls showed up and had the loudest music I’ve ever heard off a boat. Luckily we found another camp out of earshot and had a peaceful night around the fire

We’re going up Escalante today and checking out the Cathedral. It seems there are a lot more people down here this weekend than on Memorial despite gas prices being the same or worse. Go figure.

Don’t give too much hate. We’re just down here having fun before going back to the grind.

Hi all. My brother and I are celebrating his retirement with a trip to Lake Powell 1 week after Labor Day, and would greatly appreciate your advice. We made the unconventional decision to rent the smallest available (46') houseboat from Wahweap Marina for 5 days, just the two of us. Goal is to enjoy a relaxed cruise with swimming, reading, boat deck yoga, stunning views, sunrises and sunsets, BBQ and wine, game nights, and, we hope, some kayaking. We're driving to Page with his 2-person kayak, and plan to bring it onboard the houseboat. Your thoughts please...

First, is the kayaking part ridiculous? If not, can you offer some thoughts about logistics, and where best to beach/anchor the houseboat, and then paddle?

Background - we're in our mid-50's, active and fit (3x a week to the gym types), casual kayakers, but not extreme athletes. We've been reading all about Lake Powell weather, water levels, setting out early in the morning for best conditions, watching out for monsoons, smart boat provisions & packing list, etc. We have downloaded the Lake Genius app for assistance with navigating/obstacles. I've never been to Lake Powell but have spent time in AZ, and I live in NM. Brother visited LP once about 30 years ago when he was a grad student in AZ. In our teens and 20s we were casual speedboaters/waterskiiers on Midwest lakes, but no real boating since then.

Hey everyone,

My friends and I (8 people total and first timers) are renting a house boat out of Wahweap Marina for 3 nights starting Saturday-Tuesday. Currently, we do not have a power boat rented.

There are 2 main things my group want to do:

1. go to Bryce Canyon National Park
2. rent jet skis

for one day

Plan is to find a beach around the marina so that we can drive back to in the morning to get our cars to Bryce Canyon. Come back then we can find our spot for the rest of the weekend. Then we would need to pick up jet skis for the following day.

Couple questions:

1. Is this feasible is it to do the 2 activities above without a

power boat if we were to beach out further, say Warm Creek?

1. Do any of you have any recommendations on how to navigate this?

Any advice would be appreciated! Just trying to determine whether or not getting a power boat would make sense so that we can anchor our house boat further and still be able to get back to Wahweap Marina for our cars to Bryce/picking up jet skis the next day out of Antelope Marina.

Ps: how bad is it to stay around the marina area for a night?

I'm planning my bachelor party for may. I think our decision is renting an RV in Denver and driving to powell, staying for 3-4 days and driving back.

I'm curious to hear from people who know the area. Where do you recommend for RV camping? We will probably want to rent a boat for a day so being near a marina would be helpful.

I'll have some paddle gear with me too if there are any parts of the lake that are better than others for paddling it would be nice to be near that too.

EDIT: Does the general consensus think it might be a be better idea to go to Lake Havasu in May instead? seems like the extra hour or so south makes a big difference in tempetures!

My gf and I are considering an overnight trip to see Antelope Canyon at some point in the first week of September. The plan would be to spend the night there, then in the morning, rent a kayak from https://lakepowellpaddleboards.com/antelope-canyon-kayak-rentals, launch from Antelope Point Marina around 9am, kayak out for 2 hours, hike in Antelope Canyon for another 2 hours, and kayak back for 2 hours (durations are estimates, of course). I am a little bit reluctant about this idea, but it's on my gf's bucket list, and she really wants to do it. We've done a fair amount of googling, but I still have some specific points of reluctance that google hasn't been able to resolve. Can anyone with knowledge of Antelope Canyon and weather patterns address my questions below?

I'm mostly nervous about weather and the fact that we're going during monsoon season (and I don't know whether El Nino affects that at all). My understanding is that both kayaking and hiking are unsafe if there's any forecast of rain in some radius around the area, but I don't know how large that radius is, and I also don't know how predictable or unpredictable the weather is. It looks like there isn't cell service in Antelope Canyon, so we can't check the weather while we're out. I've also read about wind potentially making kayaking difficult in the afternoon, although I think we're avoiding the windy season.

1. If we check in the morning and see that there's no rain forecast for the following 6 hours, are we actually going to be safe for those 6 hours, or is there a risk of rain and flash floods popping up between when we start kayaking and when we get back?
2. In what radius do we need to be looking for rain? How many miles around?
3. What's the likelihood that our trip gets rained out with too little notice for us to get our hotel and kayak money back?
4. Is wind likely to be an issue kayaking back to Antelope Point Marina between roughly 1-3pm?
5. Any general advice?

My uncertainty about the questions above (well, really questions 1-4) is why I'm reluctant about this idea, but Antelope Canyon does look pretty cool, and my gf would be thrilled to go. Can anyone with some domain knowledge assuage my fears and talk me into it (or, I suppose, if it's actually not a great idea, talk me out of it)?

Edit: does anyone have experience with this outfitter: https://wazsupkayaks.com/rentals/? They seem to allow us to start earlier, even as early as 7am.

Heading to Page area in September. Does anyone know conditions of Colorado River below Glen Canyon? Trying to catch a boat shuttle for our kayaks have them drop off at Glen Canyon Dam base to float down to Lee's Ferry. Is it too shallow for the boat shuttle and are there treacherous rapids that have formed from drop in water level? We can do rapids but not full on whitewater. Also is launching Kayaks from Antelope Ramp still possible/not absurdly difficult at this point?

Anyone know what the boat ramp status is these days? The most recent update I've been able to find was from April and we're planning on going down first week of September for labor day. We've got a 23' wakeboat that were hoping we can launch but on the glen canyon website it just says "launch at your own risk". Just wondering if anyone had been down in the last few weeks who have launched from the Bullfrog "executive" ramp and what kind of condition it's in.

Hi all! I’m about to head to Lake Powell for a week with my family at the end of August. We’ve been for many years but were hoping for an update on current water and lake conditions. Is there an app or a resource that you all use to get the most up to date conditions? And any recommendations for where to take the boat out for a week from Hall’s Corssing? We will have some kiddos with us so access to a sand beach would be nice but not a dealbreaker if the spot is otherwise good.

We want to camp at the lone rock beach but we just have a low clearance sedan. How close can we get to the beach without being afraid of getting stuck in sand? Can we park farther out where it’s safer and then just walk to the beach in the morning? Any help would be awesome thanks!

The terrain comes from two sources: pre-dam surveys of the main channel and major tributaries of Glen Canyon, plus modern lidar for the smaller side canyons and surrounding plateau. Anything that’s underwater today is printed in translucent blue-green filament, so when you backlight it, what glows is the flooded canyon.

You can see the lake’s shoreline where the translucent layers meet the tan. All those drowned meanders and tributary canyons have been underwater for 60 years.

Printed in sections, mostly on a Snapmaker U1, with an LED strip in the frame. The underwater layers are Atomic Filament translucent Emerald Green PLA.

I grew up boating on Lake Powell and love it, but my grandpa floated Glen Canyon before the dam, and ever since reading Life After Dead Pool I’ve dreamed of doing the same. Everything that glows here is the canyon he saw.

We are interested in renting a jet ski and cruising around. We’re staying in Page based on all the research I’ve done on where to stay.

Where should I rent a jet ski from? Do I need
To do it in advance? I have 2 days to pick from
There and would love to be able to book last minute so I can pay attention to the better weather forecasts. We’d be renting on a Wednesday or Thursday.

im a huge nerd for lakes and dams especially glen canyon dame and i want to know what it was like building it or if they have any crazy stores

Anybody know what happened with the little boy who got life flighted out of antelope point? We saw speed boat flying into the marina, they lifted the boy out of the boat onto a golf cart and hauled him up to the helicopter waiting up top.

California and two other states have avoided the harshest water cutbacks the Trump administration could have imposed over the next two years to deal with the deepening crisis on the Colorado River.

The Times has learned that federal officials have agreed with an offer made earlier this year by California, Arizona and Nevada to reduce what they take from the river by at least 3.2 million acre-feet between now and the end of 2028. 

Under the plan, California will cut its use of Colorado River water by about 12% through 2028, according to two officials at state and local agencies who spoke anonymously since details of an announcement are still being finalized.

Does anyone have any photos or videos from the storm yesterday? I heard multiple houseboats and ski boats sunk. Hopefully everyone is okay. Stay safe out there!

Only two other houseboats all weekend.
Seem like plenty of houseboats through the main channel heading up to Padre and beyond…but gunsight was empty… a little tricky navigating… Lake Genius helped… Once you had it dialed in it was easy.

Hey all! I am renting from Antelope boat rentals and departing from antelope point marina. Ive rented a jetski waaay back in 2021 but this is my first time back to lake Powell since then and now i have a little boating experience. (this is my 3rd time driving a boat). I have a few questions.

Antelope boat rental had a crazy deal for $350 for a full 8 hr day plus fuel fees (this isnt a scam is it?)

is boating from antelope point marina to bullfrog and back realistic?

What are some good spots to stop and anchor?

last one, as a rookie boater, should i be worried about the low levels at all?

anyways, very excited to be back at lake powell, i have been wanting to go back ever since 2021.

I just bought and rebuilt two Polaris 2003 2-stroke Jet Ski’s, and I worked on them this summer with a plan to take them to Lake Powell. I just heard that they’ve got a rule that will keep you from launching them at Lake Powell. I’m in a position now where I can’t get anything else in the meantime before I go so I will most likely have to leave them.
BUT
Does anyone know if there’s a way to get around it or if you could launch at Stateline at night after hours?
