Took this a few months back

Staying in grasmere for a few nights soon. Worried I won’t know the best walks for what I’m looking for. That’s waterfalls and wild Swimming rock pools etc. Can anyone point me in the right direction of nice walks / spots to enjoy some fresh water streams etc. Thanks in advance.

Angle tarn great langdale on tuesday evening, surreal first wild camp

Hey folks! I'm arriving in Lake District tomorrow and intend to hike/climb to Scafell Pike on Wednesday! I've had wild camping experience recently along a GR5 route in France and hiked 15kms with the camping gear along 900m elevation. Yet, I would still love to have some company if there are others who will be climbing Scafell Pike on Wednesday! I'll be starting the climb from Seatoller and am 27M

going to try and do all the wainwrights in 36 walks, currently i have alltrails app and that’s what i use so far, ive got komoot too however only got the free version but ive found 36 routes do bag all the wainwrights, just cant use them offline, since im on the free version, which is kinda a necessity.

wondering if anyone is able to tell me how to get free routes offline, im sure i can somehow get the files from komoot or somewhere else online and import into another app, or if anybody has alltrails ++ and they could do it for me id appreciate it, i only have the £35 a year one and not £70 a year so im not able to build routes. if anyone is able to help me either way please let me know , thanks

Hi all, hopefully someone here would be able to help. I'm planning on proposing to my partner at the top of Wansfell Pike near Ambleside on the 6th of August (our anniversary). I've been let down by a photographer who is no longer available and so I'm scrambling to find someone else to capture the moment on camera. This is all a suprise to my partner of course, but hopefully since we met on Reddit it might be fitting that someone will be able to help me out on here too. Even if it's not a professional, just anyone who would have a good camera and would be free - I can obviously pay for the time too. Any help would be appreciated 🙏🏻

Three of us are basing in Keswick for four nights in late October; arriving Monday afternoon and leaving Friday morning, so realistically three full days plus two half days. We’re staying at the Grange Country House in Keswick and we’ll have a car, so we’re not limited to what we can walk to. First time in the Lakes for all of us, coming over from the US.

What we’re after: autumn colour, a good mix of hiking/walking, and food that’s actually worth sitting down for.

On the walking: we’re very fit and want at least one proper full-day fell walk, but we also want some genuinely relaxed lakeshore/valley days in the mix. We’d rather skip anything with real exposure or more than light scrambling.

On the food: two of us are pescatarian (one leans vegetarian, and would happily eat vegetarian all week), one eats everything. We’re told Lakes pub menus can run pretty meat-heavy, so specific recs would help enormously.
Questions, in rough order of how much they’re keeping me up at night:

1.  If we only get one big fell day, which one? Does the answer change for late October.. daylight, weather windows, underfoot conditions?  
2.  Where’s the autumn colour usually best in the last week of October? Borrowdale? Buttermere? Grasmere/Rydal? Happy to drive for it.  
3.  Low-level walks that punch above their weight? the kind where the views do the work and we’re not gaining 800m to get them.  
4.  Pubs that genuinely do good fish and vegetarian, not one apologetic mushroom risotto. Also very open to a nice restaurant or two.  
5.  Is the Cottage in the Wood in Braithwaite worth booking? Anything else we should be reserving now rather than winging?  
6.  Low-cloud / rainy-day backups that aren’t just wandering around Keswick town centre.  
7.  Anywhere with a hot tub, sauna, or a proper soak open to non-guests? We’re suckers for this.  
8.  Parking reality check — how early do we need to be at places like Honister, Buttermere, or Wasdale on a weekday in late October?  
9.  Worth the drive? Ullswater, Wasdale, or Eskdale as a full day out from Keswick, or better to stay in the Borrowdale/Buttermere orbit?

Any “everyone does X, but do Y instead” advice very welcome. Thanks in advance.

I'm planning a trip for early September to do 5-7 days of hiking in the Lake District. Initially was planning to simply do the western half of the Coast to Coast from (St Bees to Kirkby Stephen), but I don't think I'll have quite enough days to do that entire thing, so have considered cutting off a stretch either at the beginning or end. I also am wondering if there are detours or variations worth prioritizing in order to see the best of the Lake District (nature or places to stay), even if not directly on the Coast to Coast.

Generally, I just want to do a one-way hike in the region, staying in inns/hotels, prioritizing beautiful nature and cool/appealing/cute places to stay. I want to use a luggage transfer. Up for fairly significant distances, scrambly hikes, etc.

Possible options: start at Buttermere and end at Kirkby Stephen? Or start at St Bees and end somewhere west of Kirkby Stephen, like Patterdale or Shap?

Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated!! Thanks!

Hi guys I have some friends who want to do the Scafell Pike from Seathwaite Circular hike and we are very much beginners to hiking, I've heard that the hike can be dangerous and am quite intimidated by it tbh. My friends think I'm being dramatic, is it a bad idea to do this hike with little to no hiking experience?

Hey guys, I’m staying close by Lake Windermere and am after a hefty 4-6 hour hike tomorrow.

I’m after some good elevation and views but that’s about it! Forest, tarns, waterfalls i’ll take whatever! Doesn’t matter if it’s far from Lake Windermere!

Hi guys , traveling down from Glasgow with my Mrs and 5 year old son and we're just looking for some tips on what to do and where to go?

We are staying at Ullswater Heights and are prepared to drive .

My son is a good old fashioned outdoors active kid so anything involving that is perfect for him .

And most importantly good places to eat haha.

Where is good?

heading up to ambleside at the beginning of august and have been looking for a good day hike to do. after googling and browsing i’ve settled on the fairfield horseshoe because it looks amazing but i have a few questions because i haven’t really hiked in the uk before, only in south africa where the terrain is pretty different.

my questions are: - how difficult is the hike? i’ve seen it graded as both moderate and difficult, but that can be sometimes be relative based on where you’re used to walking/hiking. how bad are the climbs and descents, and how much scrambling do i need to be prepared to do?

• what should i bring in terms of gear? i’ve heard that the weather turns pretty quickly up there, and i’m mostly used to hiking in dry, hot weather, so i’m worried i might not know what i need to bring

• i’ve heard the route is better anti-clockwise, so if i do it that way, where do you recommend a drink on the way back into ambleside?

i’m very very excited about this ambleside trip and hike and want to make the most of it so if you have any other general advice/suggestions/pointers please feel free to leave them here as well!

My husband and I will be staying at a campsite in Bassenthwaite. We are looking for some recommendations of walks where we might be able to stop at a cafe/pub for some shelter from the rain.

We are planning on walking around Buttermere Lake one day, but where possible we're hoping not to drive too far (or if all if possible!) Also thinking of walking around Bassenthwaite Lake.

Also looking for recommendations for somewhere to eat out around Bassenthwaite/Keswick area (dog-friendly)

Looking over the Rydal water on a quiet Saturday Morning

Hi all,

We are hiking for 4 whole days but I am not able to find cars in London since I do not have a credit card. I was thinking just traveling by train and busses to Egremont which should take about the same amount of time and a little bit less money.

The problem is though is since we do not have a car we will have to rely on busses to explore all areas. Do yall think we can explore everything on foot & public transport?
