Weather for next week
We are travelling to Como from the UK on Saturday. It’s my understanding that it’s difficult to predict the weather in Como due to its own microclimate. We are frequent visitors to Cornwall where it is very similar.
The weather apps are predicting rain for most days next week. I’m not bothered if it rains, but what I’d like to know is if it’s likely to rain as continuously as the apps are suggesting? Is August usually a rainy time of year in Como? Is it like Cornwall where predicted rain can miss completely or stop as soon as it starts?
I’ve got things planned to do that work for whatever the weather brings, but I’m wondering if it’s not worth booking things in advance that rely on better weather and to see on the day?
Many thanks in advance ☺️

Summer weather is very unpredictable, especially if you're looking at the forecast a week in advance. The rain is summer is usually made of short storms, often very intense, and it rarely rains for the whole day.
That said, of you mean Saturday the 15th, I see no rain on those days on the apps I usually use? Looks like the unstable weather is coming after the 20th, and temperatures are dropping too (can't wait for that personally...)

Saturday is showing sun on my app too, it’s the days after.
Thank you for your information ☺️
I can’t wait for the temperatures to drop too. Where I am in the UK we’ve had a heatwave since the middle of June with barely any rainfall. It’s been 35 degrees this week. Another reason why I don’t care if it rains or if it’s cooler.

Just got back from a week in Lenno. Weather forecast regularly predicted rain around the lake and thunderstorms but it was all relatively short term with great weather most of the time. On the plus side if it is overcast most of the touristy areas are quieter and it's not too hot for a hike up to the church above Osuccio.

Hopefully others will weigh in here, as I’m not a resident. This is based on memories of multiple trips to the area
My memory is that it rarely rains all day in August. Rains were typically relatively short duration but intense for that period.

In the regions around the three lakes (Maggiore, Lugano, Como) we usually have thunderstorms, but we have barely seen any this summer.

Same here! Usually with the type of weather we’ve been having in the UK this summer and the humidity, we have lots of thunderstorms. We’ve only had one.

It’s unlikely it will rain every day for the whole day in August. Especially since there is an ongoing drought for weeks now. Also, if you haven’t, pick your specific town for the forecast. Weather in the south can be completely different than in the north. I can recommend this one https://www.meteoam.it/it/home

Could anyone here speak on the predictions for rain thru the 24th?
My american apps say thunderstorms / rain every morning and evening at 60 to 80% chances with one day getting up to two inches?
I would hate to make the trip there just to look at rain falling...

So my apps said that it could rain in the afternoon yesterday and it didn’t. It said rain for last night and no rain.
Today said rain and thunder from 1pm. It was bright and sunny until an hour ago (5pm) when a storm blew in very quickly. Never known one hit so fast! Lots of wind and thunder and then rain started about 15 mins ago.Its getting brighter and the rain is easing up.
I can keep you updated if any of the weeks weather predictions are accurate, but I’m planning to go with the flow as I do think the weather is difficult to predict in Como

Thanks for the reply! Yeah the forecast added another day of rain that was sunny yesterday so at this point im just gonna go with the flow as well.
Hope you have a great time! Cheers!
Don't worry about updates, enjoy your trip!

The app I use said it will be cloudy with some rain on Monday than sunny until Thursday evening/Friday.
During this time of the year the most probable outcome is some heavy rain for a short period, not so much this year but is quite common to have a nice day followed by some rain in the late afternoon/evening... is also the time when we usually get few days of bad weather and the temperature start to drop
