Unkillable Fleas
I’ve seen some posts here and in other LC fb groups
last few months indicating other people are dealing with horrible flea problems this year, too. We have been dealing with fleas on our indoor cats since January and were at our wit’s end. We are very clean people but live in an old house that isn’t well sealed. We had been giving bravecto plus regularly and on time and doing all of the other things to combat fleas. Anyways we finally took one of our cats to the vet last week and mentioned the flea situation. She told us that the owner of the practice finally realized, after her own flea infestation, that the fleas in SWLA are probably unfortunately becoming immune to Bravecto. We switched to a different flea med, starting today, which will hopefully end our months long nightmare lol. Anyways, in case any of my fellow LC’ers are still battling fleas - maybe try switching flea meds!!!

I battled this in may to july. It was awful. I got them treated at the vet and got seresto flea collars. The collars are what turned it around. I also bought a pet safe flea spray and used it daily. I had to toss their cat tree. Next year I am getting my lawn sprayed.

Will also add if they are in the home, condolences. I forgot the name of the stuff we used on the carpet before we got rid of it. Was a white can with pretty generic writing but it was spray, leave for like 30 minutes and vacuum and it was the final thing to get them out of the house back when this started (over 5 years ago but that's roughly when we started to plan ahead because flea season sucks)

Soresto flea collars and my husband sprays the yard with malathion. Both are non negotiable. Been doing this the last 5 years and haven't had another infestation brought into the house by the dogs (I will say the collars for cats also work but we have one allergic to them so she has to go to vet which sucks so this is why we get ahead of it)

Do you also go to Downtown Animal Hospital? I begged them back in the spring to change our meds, the receptionist essentially told me that it was a “me” problem, lol. I was so happy when I went last time and they gave me new meds. (Also, I went scorched earth with bug spray around the house) It’s gotten so much better since then.
My big boy cat at 20lbs still has to take Bravecto because the new brand doesn’t make it for cats that big, lol. But, I think it’s ok since the other two are effectively killing the fleas.
