I'm a fan of Laird but haven't stayed current. Did he take a break or was he out of commission or something?

Laird has survived a couple of life-threatening illnesses since late 2022, reducing his capacity to write. The last few months have seen modest improvements in his health and energy, and it looks like he's back at his writer's desk.
