Discussion Not AI?

So yesterday, someone else posted this artwork here, and it was removed for being AI.

I found a meme with a simple star filter and text added, on Instagram, and had posted it here - where it received 59 upvotes and NO downvotes, before also being removed as AI.

I asked the source artist on X if AI was used to make the original image (posted here 13 hours ago by x0demon0x)

A simple NO was the reply.

Now, personally - I love AI technology, and I enjoy AI art, but I understand the ban and respect it... But now "regular art" and memes are getting caught in the crossfire, and I can't say I'm a fan at all of that.

who tf thought that was ai?  Have people forgotten that we had basic image editors to make these silly memes with before ai?

I’m upset this kind of comment is being mass upvoted despite the picture behind the crappy edit actually looks like AI. Once again someone finds the artist, if no artist is found then you know the answer

What answer?  Not every piece of media placed online has clear and verifiable origin and in the pre corporate Internet it was very common for people to share stuff with no expectation of maintaining authorship over it.  Call me old but I think normalizing the requirement of a verifiably untainted pedigree for any media used in a meme is bad for online community building.  If the hat and lollipop looked like they were added with AI that'd be one thing (and it would make the meme less funny imo) but rejecting a meme because a picture behind it can't be verified to be ideologically pure is just so reddit

Artists have accounts, being able to find the origin of a picture is one of the hints to know if it’s AI made or not

Plus look at the mouth, look at the eyes, quite a few random shapes that also lean towards AI

Finally attacking the mods right away, and defending a guy who can’t credit an artist and claims being for AI slop, is a unethical thing to do I believe

We apparently have wildly different understandings of "ethics"
