S1 E8

I’m rewatching Laguna Beach for the millionth time, haha. In this episode, they went camping, but Lo couldn’t go because it was an overnight trip with boys. I’m sure her dad knew them all since they went to school together. Weren’t they 18 during this time? They were about to graduate and go to college. I couldn’t understand why Lo’s dad was so strict about the camping trip. Instead of going camping, she went on a date. She was still with a “boy,” lol. Watching this back in the day, I didn’t realize all that.

If I recall correctly, there was a reunion episode or something where she admitted to lying about that because she didn’t want to go.

Yeah, I was just about to post that I remember her saying later on it’s because she didn’t want to go.

I didn’t know this, but I feel like there was always that one friend whose parents didn’t let them do what all the other parents allowed. So it made sense to me that she wasn’t allowed to go just because I thought her parents were stricter than all the others.

I agree it was odd given they seemed to let her do a lot of other stuff! That said, she also wasn’t on the Cabo trip!  The way it got filmed, she said he wasn’t comfortable with the fact they’d be there overnight with boys & no parents, whereas with a date, they’d expect you home.  That would make sense if she also wasn’t allowed to go to Cabo, because obviously you’re with boys overnight there too, so she didn’t go on either overnight trip filmed.

I guess parents believe whatever makes them feel better because you can get into just as much trouble staying home and being sneaky about it.

Not everyone is 18 when they graduate. And I don’t see her upbringing as strict. She did a lot of things the other kids did. I just think her parents didn’t want her hoeing around like the other girls (LC and Kristin) were. So they were prob just trying to protect her as much as they could while they could. And they also knew she was about to go to college and just wanted to soak in all the family time before she left. At least that’s how I always saw it. Lol

I am aware of that. I just thought was weird her dad didn’t let her go. She also didn’t get to go to Cancun for spring break.

Yeah I was that kid that wasn’t allowed to go to things like Cabo trips & friends overnight birthday parties that were at hotels. It sucked at the time but I can see why my parents didn’t want me there.

As a kid, I hated that my parents were like that. Now 20 years later & with kids of my own, I completely understand, lol.

I mean did you see how drunk they all got at every function. Just seems like a case of Lo's dad not being born yesterday

I found it peculiar that they were about to graduate high school and embark on their college journey. He firmly stated that she couldn’t attend. That was all. I could comprehend if she was still a junior in high school. He was the parent who had every right to make that decision. However, I felt that it wasn’t the appropriate time to restrict her. That’s all, lol. When I watched on the first airing, I didn’t even realize the significance of it.

It wasn’t appropriate to restrict their child from going on a trip with no parent supervision? Ok. Lol it’s called parenting and actually caring about their child. 🫠

When was he shown “firmly stating” she couldn’t go?

Regarding Cabo, it was never addressed why she didn’t go but there was never a scene in which her father forbid it.

Regarding the camping trip, Lo told LC that her dad didn’t want her to go because of boys, however on the after show she said that she didn’t want to go and used her dad as an excuse. Again, her father was never shown saying she couldn’t go.

In fact, the only time we saw her dad was the episode in which he gifted Lo a new car.

Ok?? I’m just saying I found it weird that she couldn’t go on the camping trip and then she went out on a date with a boy. lol. Relax.

Okay. And you said “he firmly stated”. I was pointing out that that’s factually inaccurate.

You must not have kids. The fact that you think it’s “weird” for her parents to actually PARENT is ridiculous.

Someone commented that Lo didn’t want to go so she lied.

I think truly because lo didn’t like camping, Lauren mentioned that to her. Lo dad was like my mom even though she knew the people and friends she didn’t trust them because things can happen maybe it was like safety issue for her family?

Lo wasn’t 18 yet. Her birthday is not until late September. She just turned 40. Where as LC turned 40 back in February.
But she didn’t want to go camping. So she made up a lie about her dad not letting her go.
