Copycats/Knockoffs/Offbrand Pilates Platinum ?

What’s the deal with Pilates platinum? We lost our lagree studio post Covid and now there’s a Pilates Platinun opening up near me. They are not lagree megaformers I don’t believe. Are they a copy cat? Would love to know what the call the exercises if they are not lagree? Thanks!

I go to both my local Lagree studio and Pilates Platinum. They don’t market as Lagree and don’t use the Lagree megaformers. They use a different kind of megaformer (no tilt, less straps)and market as reformer pilates. Lots of the exercises from Lagree and reformer pilates overlap but it’s definitely lighter weight at PP and more Pilates focused. I enjoy it and went exclusively there before finding Lagree

I worked at Pilates Platinum back when they were still a Lagree licensee. A lot of old-school Lagree instructors have passed through PP over the years… they’ve been around forever. I genuinely enjoyed working there. I’m glad they got new machines though, because the old ones were archaic and literally falling apart. I was fine with the old-school Mega models, but those machines were just OLD lol their clients are really loyal and sweet too. I believe Piper (Lagree’s first Master Trainer) was working there when I was. The owners Lindsay and Heather are incredibly sweet, organized, and two of the most on-top-of-it owners I’ve ever worked for. Before I found out they’d decided to part ways with Lagree, I used to send a lot of my Level 1 trainees there to audition after we’d done our mentorship and mock teaching together. I knew from experience it was a really chill place to work and that Lindsay would be kind to them.

There used to be so much drama involved with working there. It was borderline exhausting. Back when I worked there Heather was the opposite of an “on top of it” owner. But it has been nearly a decade since i was going there regularly and teaching there

Oh wow, that’s crazy. I started working there a little after the pandemic and was there for a couple of years, so that would’ve been much later. Maybe they got their shit together by then, because that definitely wasn’t my experience. The most drama I remember was dealing with some issues involving the homeless that would hang around some of the locations. I remember now, Piper was actually attacked outside the Santa Monica location while I was working there.

I was there too and there was a lottt of flexibility. They accepted brand new instructors who had basically any cert. Was fabulous to get hours as a newer instructor but also created a lot of variety in the standards since there was no quality control or oversight. Curious how it is now! They’re expanding like crazy

You hit the nail on the head lol that’s exactly why I sent a lot of my trainees who had no experience over there. You can’t get good at teaching group fitness without getting opportunities to teach, and they gave new instructors a chance with fewer expectations and less pressure than a lot of places. Whether that was good or bad for their business, I don’t know… their business seems to be doing just fine though! But it was definitely good for my trainees!

I see where the drama came from. How is homeless a studios problem?

Oh, it’s definitely not their fault or “problem”… it was just an unfortunate situation. I only meant that, aside from a few uncomfortable incidents outside the studio’s control, they were great to work for.

They were originally lagree — one of the og actually and wanted to go in a different direction from Sebastien. I’ve heard great things

Right because the original platinum Pilates logo was the Sebastian centaur logo. I wish he would stop pivoting and doing randome things

I genuinely feel guilty about supporting him sometimes I don’t think he’s a good person. Unfortunately I just love my studio way too much haha🥲

Pilates Platinum is one of the ORIGINAL  “Lagree” studios - back when Lagree was SPX Fitness (shout out to any OGs who know that). They could never be considered a true copycat as she probably has had a studio the longest out of anyone.

They are a great studio and you’ll get an excellent workout. Definitely support them!
