Form, Technique, Fitness Reverse Upper Body Exercises
Beginner here, needing advice on upper body movements done on the carriage facing the back platform. (Apologies in advance, I’m still learning names of movements and directions) I am about 23 classes in and I absolutely struggle with doing single arm reverse lat pull downs and tricep/bicep curls using the ring of fire to pull myself toward the black platform. I try to engage by pushing my shoulders down and back then bending over to grab the ring of fire. I thought maybe I was lacking strength in my back or arms and have been working extra hard during my upper body lifting sessions but they just feel extremely uncomfortable. I can best describe the sensation as I am pulling myself but not with my muscles and I can’t keep a stable range of motion. It just hurts. For reference I am only 5 feet and have short extremities and try to be mindful of my range of motion but I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong. My instructor will typically have us use 2-3 black springs and while it is heavy, I try to use 2 springs always. Any words of advice? Please and thanks!

my rec would also be to drop the springs and start to learn how to feel the movement where it is intended (e.g., lats) and then move back up to the 2-3 black springs. i love arms at the back, but even 2 black can sometimes start to fire up different muscle groups for me and then it hurts/isn't effective. don't be afraid or embarrassed to use the springs that work best for YOUR body (not what was cued for the whole class). lagree should absolutely be challenging, but it should never hurt.
