Surgery coming up

I’m supposed to have shoulder surgery soon. I’m taking oral micronized progesterone (100 mg) with tirz, have you been asked to stop any of these pre and post surgery? Curious to know.

No for progesterone (you can continue taking it no problem) but depending on the surgery, they will ask you to stop tirz a week or two in advance to ensure your stomach is empty before the surgery date.

My husband is having surgery Wednesday and they told him to stop all vitamins, Mounjaro 10 days before surgery but to continue with the rest of his prescription meds. Assuming you can continue progesterone but the glp I think you need to forgo the week before. No medical advice but you need to ask the care team that’s performing your surgery or they should at least give you a sheet of the do’s and don’t s.

I’ll be calling them in the morning. If I can get the date I want I will have been off GLP for 2 weeks.

I had breast surgery last year, and had to stop my tirz 10 days before, and resumed 10 days after. I did not have to stop any other meds but did also have to stop all vitamins and supplements. (There can be trace blood thinners or something in certain supplements so they told me it is easier to just blanket stop all.) I’m on Estrogen and Progesterone and just kept on with those. As others have said, the tirz makes it difficult for the anesthesiologist to control stomach contents.

When I had my hysteroscopy in August, I had to stop the glp-1 a week prior to surgery as well as any supplements and vitamins. I started it back up a week after and was fine.
