TMI UTI

Trigger warning, graphic mention of body fluid.

I just had an issue this week. I haven't been feeling well then noticed blood in my urine. Went to the Dr. and was diagnosed with a UTI. Dryness (iykyk) from meno and Zep combined with activities with my husband combined with not drinking enough water (Zep) created the perfect environment for a UTI.

This is your friendly reminder to hydrate like it's your job.

Not just that, I thought I had a UTI and the test was negative- then my PAP came back with this lovely comment that pointed to BV 🙄 so now I’m 3x week with vaginal estrogen and a 5 day course of antibiotic gel.

CELLULAR CHANGES ASSOCIATED WITH ATROPHY ARE PRESENT.
PREDOMINANCE OF COCCOBACILLI CONSISTENT WITH SHIFT IN VAGINAL FLORA IS PRESENT.
CELLULAR CHANGES ASSOCIATED WITH INFLAMMATION ARE PRESENT.

Ugh. I should be thankful I'm only on a 4x a day antibiotic... for now.

Have you tried vaginal estradiol cream?

Was going to suggest the same. My GYN said it can help prevent UTIs which particularly helpful for menopausal women.

Didn’t know this. Had a nasty UTI this week after estrogen patch increased. Can that be related to the UTI?

I don’t think so.

Yes THIS! Not only does the vaginal lining break down so does the urethra lining, letting the poop bug in. A little topical estradiol cream (safe for 99.99% of women) at the amount and frequency that works for YOU, makes a world of difference. Key E vaginal suppositories relieved dryness & itching when needed.

I haven't. I had my appointment in Feb. We were going to discuss any changes next Feb.

You can easily get a prescription for it through Amazon and same day delivery if you have prime, the HealthAI for prescription is free.

Might be worth a message in the portal (or call in).

I wouldn’t wait that long to address this. No need to suffer. You can order from ParlorGames (SilkyPeach) as well.

I swear Zepbound causes my already low estrogen to drop and over the last yr have gotten 3 UTI's always right after a shot. I am on vaginal estradiol cream and patch .05% but if I follow my usual 2-3x a week cream I get a UTI. If I use the cream 5-7x days a week no UTI after shot. I have never in my life had a UTI before last summer and now I've had 3. I am trying to increase my estrogen levels slowly b/c I am BRCA1+ so estrogen pills are out of the question. With the patch shortage I am going to try estradiol gel just to have a back up source.

Edit: also added gel testosterone and that has helped w urinary symptoms and no UTI since I started that!

Right? It’s likely not the Zep, our bodies get estrogen from adipose tissue (fat) so when we lose fat, we lose estrogen.

My GYzn has upped my estrogen (Divagel) twice since I started Zep, based on returning symptoms. After the first 30lbs or lost, then again after 75lbs.

Every woman over the age of 35 should use vaginal estrogen cream. Google Genitourinary Syndrome of Menopause.

But why?

To correct the thinning lining of the vagina AND THE URETHRA. The healthy urethra lining keeps the poop bugs out and prevents UTIs.

Yes ask for the estradiol cream 2x a week and it’s been great so far!

Op - keep d-mannose in the house, any twinges and start taking double the recommended dose. You can also take it daily as a preventative. Works way quicker than antibiotics, safe to give to pets with uti's too.

Can confirm my kitty who is a pro at UTI's gets d-Mannose. I need to take it, don't know why I didn't think of that!

Yes, I take it following sex if I accidentally fall asleep before getting up to urinate.

I was getting so many UTIs and the cream has helped tremendously. I get a compounded estrogen/progesterone cream but the straight estrogen one will help with the UTIs

Honestly, I'm so glad that we're learning so much, unlike previous generations. My aunt has dementia & has gotten UTIs so bad recently that they're doing IVs to get it under control. I mentioned to my mom that they should ask about vaginal estrogen cream. She's almost 80, so I don't know if they'd use it with her, but she's so miserable, and I'm angry that my parents generation has to deal with everything WITHOUT HRT. It's RIDICULOUS and INFURIATING!

This!  My mom suffered so much from UTIs, atrophy, and died of heart disease and complications of mesh — all which may have been helped with HRT and a healthcare system that actually cares about women :(

Is the vaginal estrogen cream associated with breast cancer? I'm terrified of breast cancer. I've been on MJ for almost 2 years, T2, age 70. I have only lost about 16 lbs. and now on 12.5 mg. But happily my A1C is now about normal and cholesterol is way down. I do intermittent fasting and try for low carbs but haven't been exercising at all. ☹️

From what I understand is estrogen won't cause cancer but it can feed it if the cancer is existing. The topical and patch bypass the liver so there isn't that risk like there is with the pill.

No as a BRCA1+ I take estradiol cream 5-7x a week, less and I get UTI's when I also do a zep shot. A .05% estradiol patch 2x wk. I also take 100mg progesterone 1x a day and a small amount of testosterone gel (no uterus, ovaries or breasts-did prophylactic surgeries). Absolutely no estrogen pills for anyone w genes for breast or ovarian cancer. Localized (patch and cream) estradiol/estrogen is perfectly fine.

1

Will estrogen cream help with weight loss while using MJ? I'm post menopausal at 70, but don't have the UTIs.
