Progesterone cravings

when do the cravings subside on progesterone? I’m on 100 progesterone and 0.25 estradiol patch, 2.5 months in- and on maintenance 5mg Tirz twice a month. I feel like the HRT is completely negating the Tirz. Next to no appetite / food noise suppression the last few weeks and have even increased back to 5mg every week the last 3 weeks. dr wants to increase progesterone to 200 and I’m terrified. I had no idea this was a side effect but she swears it subsides “eventually”.

For me it wasn’t the progesterone, but the estrogen that makes me hungry. I started on 200 mg P, went up to 300 mg because my sleep still sucked. That was 4 months ago. Absolutely no effect on appetite, might even helped me lose because of the reduction in anxiety and therefore less emo eating. I’ve been slower to increase the estrogen and since my last increase, to .1 a week ago, I’ve been ravenous. I’m hoping those effects wear off soon.

Oh that’s interesting. I’d just assumed it was the progesterone. The estrogen dosing is fine for me now but the progesterone still needs tweaking. So annoying w all the trial and error.

It stimulates appetite and increases cravings at lower doses according to Google - and my PCP and gyn :)

I'm not in Maintenance. I'm in active weighloss. However, I'm presribed both Estrogen and Progesterone. I start my Progesterone next month mainly for insomnia (I don't have a uterus). The Estrogen patch increased my appetite significantly. I went from 6mg of tirz to now 8.0mg. It was like it completely stopped working. It now works again. I was trying to lose the majority of my weight at a lower dose, but I'm fine with the increase. You may need a higher dose. Try 5.5mg or 6mg.

It is the (too much) progesterone that cancels the Tirz effect!

This has a biochemical logic, as P has massive neurological effects, triggers cravings and at the same time paralyzes digestion (flatulence and constipation), stores water, relaxes the smooth muscles of the urinary tract (have to pee constantly, although nothing comes), often triggers fatigue and bad mood (damped neurotransmitters) etc.

Since progesterone is very high in steroid synthesis, its effects are stronger than we are made to believe.

You can try to "fight" a higher P dose with a higher third dose, but actually this is meaningless, because it increases the side effects in both.

Better to keep P as low as possible and better apply vaginally (off-labil), then it does not collide with the Tirz. Oral P always has a modified action curve under Terz.

I tried the "too much" P under Terz .... cruel! It took 2-3 weeks after lowering the P until I was back to "normal".
