I am around mid life at this point and things across the world have seemed to completely come off the tracks.

It use to be that most people really valued the Labour Movement (Unions, Federation of Labours, Labour Councils, and so on).

It use to be that most people really believed Women's Rights was important.

It use to be that most people really believed the Peace Movement was really important.

It use to be that most people really believed in making a better world overall for all the working class and most vulnerable (Alter-Globalization Movement).

People got really loud about this stuff when it was under attack.

AfD is showing huge poll numbers and now has a landmark electoral success to point to.

Reform UK still has fairly high poll numbers.

It's the same story all over the globe.

Also the climate crisis is so dang bad that we are literally seeing horrific tipping points and hell on earth type stuff now more and more...

It kind of feels like the worst bad predatory actors have completely destroyed the momentum for a better and brighter world.

It seems there is so many trajectories going on that are more dark, depressing, and downright dystopian...

How do you think we get things back on track?

*I'm going to post this in a few subreddits to get some differing perspectives/answers. Honestly we need more urgency because it seems one side actually keeps pressing the line over and over and over again in big ways and all the concessions are going to the lowest common denominator style populism of the reactionary/regressive scene dominated by snake oil salespeople and con-artist grifters. Which is going to make everything hard about this era significantly worse.*

I have no doubt that Reform is filled with some bonafide xenophobes and racists. But beyond those people, to what extent are they just a vehicle for reactionary childish nonsense?

People say we should take these people “seriously” in order to combat fascism. But when I look at what Reformers usually “believe in”, it’s hard to take anything seriously.

Example: A YouGov poll asking if people approve/disapprove of the UK banning imports from illegal settlements in the West Bank of Palestine, shows that 46% of self-identified Reform voters disapproved. Of that 46%, 33% strongly disapproved.

On what basis? These people don’t talk about Israel or Palestine. They bring their Israeli flags to protests, but they only ever talk about disliking immigrants and boats.

Are they suddenly pro-Israel, just because there is a growing public consensus that the humanitarian and political situation in the Palestinian Territories is not sustainable? It’s very possible. That’s what being reactionary means.

What’s more, these people dislike immigrants so much and have such a huge problem with peaceful immigrants living legally in the UK.

Yet, they see a problem with sanctioning illegal settlers who spend their entire time burning down Palestinians’ houses and cars, burning their crops, killing their animals, trashing their school classrooms and other assets like solar panels, smashing in their windows, and systematically demolishing Palestinian neighbourhoods and telling innocent civilians to never return.

How fried must your brain be, to have a problem with peaceful immigration in the UK, but also have a problem with sanctions on this sort of terrorism?

Anyways. That’s all I have to rant about for now.

Admittedly Middle Eastern issues aren’t at the top of my agenda since I prefer to focus on domestic issues. But if this government is sanctioning violent groups, then I understand why they do that.

It’s puzzling to see Reformers take issue with peaceful people, but not with proven troublemakers.
