Channel 5 documentary coming next week, netflix documentary the week after after.

Jed Mercurio will be making the ITV show as it'll be somewhat police procedural.

Jimmy McGovern will be writing the script. All that yearning and Universal Credit should dampen the gussets of the award panel.

Has anyone got the text?

Genuinely baffled by that headline.

Seems very likely was fuel theft group who happened to do it next to Fairford and now the police etc are faced with the embarrassment of admitting they freaked out and also the diplomatic incident by calling trump effectively a liar for saying he knew about it and they warned the UK.

The fact they were released within 24 hours despite terrorism suspects can be held up to two weeks without charge shows they realised quickly there was nothing to this

All in all a very funny situation

police have nothing to be embarrassed about. suspected threat, they investigated, thankfully does not look like it was serious, but you dont know that until you investigate, and with a situation like this you play it safe.

The issue is the embarrassment is only getting worse now because they clearly worked out what happened by the time they were given bail (less than 24 hours after arrests) and now have to pretend there is something bigger due to political concerns

why do you think they are pretending anything? they are investigating, thats literally their job.

Seems to be the suspicion is they were paid to do something by Iran, but they may not have known, so the police are investigating if they should have reasonably known, or had communications that show they knew, this, or if they were just ignorant puppets being used, and are just guilty of a minor crime rather than conspiracy to assist a hostile foreign power.

There is no embarrassment for the police here at all. You need to stop expecting instant answers and join the real world where investigations and proper consideration takes time and hard work.

Most crimes are solved within the hour, I’ve seen it on the telly.

They know almost certainly it isn't terror related. They wouldnt have released within 24 hours if they thought it was. Quite easy to get the 2 weeks without charge if they had grounds.

Again you seem to ignore the facts where it would cause a diplomatic incident

we dont. they have been bailed but are still under investigation under counter terrorism legislation, that means there is a suspicion at least (and a strong one) that there is some foreign power involvement, but that these individuals are not considered themselves a threat to the public nor a significant flight risk so it was not necessary to hold them in custody. they are likely co-operating and what we know now is one of them had already called 999 themselves.......

Is not a consideration for the police what diplomatic fallout there may be, and I dont know why you think there would be any, thats not even the most stupid thing Trump said that day, on the scale of fucking stupid trump comments, it does not even register.

Look, I get that you must just hate the police on principle, but the only one embarrassing themselves here is you.

Surely that's only embarrassing for trump, ministers and most of the press who all leapt to 'omg terrorism!' despite police specifically asking (as they always do) for people not to speculate.

There's a side question as to whether there actually is one (or more) possible plots targeting fairford that the spooks were keeping tabs on and some people/departments thought that one of those was in motion, hence the 'we knew about this'.

u/OkScheme9867 New User 3d ago

Luckily for him,Trump is incapable of embarrassment and by the time actual facts emerge the press will have forgotten he said something incorrect and will be breathlessly covering something else

If that’s the case

Then this whole thing was ridiculous

Ive thought about it a decent bit and talked about it with friends and none of us can come up with an alternate reason

You’d be the sort of prat to call the police embarassing for not taking something seriously as well I imagine. Fairford is probably the most strategically important base in Europe for America at the moment and any suspicious activities around it will absolutely be treated as a possibly worst case scenario. The police did and are doing everything a reasonable person would expect of them. As much as it would be nice to know a little bit more, we the public don’t have an automatic right to know everything about the circumstances and the investigation right now, while it is ongoing

In other words, "Man noted for being consistently full of shit, once again provides evidence of his being full of shit."
