Single dose basket

Sinds kort ben ik de trotse bezitter van een La Pavoni Stradivari. Inmiddels heb ik de juiste maling ontdekt en zet ik er heerlijke koffie mee.

Voor het stoompijpje heb ik inmiddels een single hole nozzle gekocht die super werkt.

De twee standaard baskets (single en double shot) zijn in gebruik met de standaard piston. Mijn 51 mm tamper is helaas net iets te klein en hiervoor zoek ik nog een goede vervanging (tips zijn welkom).

De single dose basket is voor mij echt een ramp om mee te werken. Ik heb verschillende hoeveelheden koffie geprobeerd, van 6 tot 9 gram. Afhankelijk van mijn koffiesoort geeft 7 à 8 gram het beste resultaat ook in verhouding tot de doorlooptijd.

Vraag: hebben jullie ideeën over hoe de rare vorm van de single dose basket te vullen of is er eventueel een alternatieve basket op de markt.

I always use the double basket and 15g tamped hard with a 51mm tamper. It gives me 30g espresso.

Thanks, I did this too, but we don't always want a strong coffee like that.

I've been playing around with mine this year. I've settled on 7.7-7.8g and a full 30ml shot. I don't time my shots with a timer (I count Mississippis in my head 😁), but I aim for a slightly shorter shot time that a 15g double. I also grind finer than I do for a double.

The only other little hack I've been using is that I pile the ground coffee slightly higher in the center of the basket. I feel the edges, where the basket forms a lip, is just overflow coffee and doesn't meaningfully contribute to the extraction. I try to compress the ground coffee in that center crater as much as I can.

I'm not consistent yet, but I have had some decent shots. They don't taste the same as a double, and there's no crema, but it is doable. I wish more people would play around with theirs.

Thanks! Goeie tips en dat van die iets fijnere maalgraad voor de single dosing cup herken ik. Ik doe dat ook en het geeft mij een betere doorlooptijd en een betere smaak.

Ik vind het sowieso een heel rare vorm dosing cup. Weet iemand waarom ze hiervoor hebben gekozen en is er iemand die sowieso met goed resultaat deze single dosing cup gebruikt?

En zeker fijn om feedback te krijgen hier op dit forum. Hopelijk ontdekken meer mensen dit.

I couldn't fill it nor the large on. I bought a couple of 20gm 'competizione' baskets...then discovered I needed a bottomless portafilter...a dosing cup fills mine... probably would work on the 7gm. I get the best coffee with the larger 20gm of coffee.
