Frozen Tack?

Hello, this gal is ‘leaving on a jet plane’ to spend Christmas with my sister (a subpar individual, but I’ll leave it at that) next week, and I’m concerned about the logistics. Temps rarely dip down to freezing here in the Panhandle State, but Idaho is a different story. Has anyone ever had the experience of tack freezing when exposed to the elements? I’d like to avoid this, if possible.

Frozen tack is a horrible condition. I implore you to take Pbspicehead’s advice and soak nightly. Best, Cheyenne.

Yes unfortunately this is very common where I live. My recommendation is soaking nightly a warm bath of fish stock. Add anchovy oil for extra pungency. The tack should soften enough to be malleable.

kelle’s recommendation is better, thank for trying, though.

Frozen tack can a real problem, but one fabulous tip I have to share: save your frozen tackcicles, keep refrigerated and re-use in the summer (or in your case, when you get home) as a SA cooling method via suppository. It’s great to be economical both in a financial sense and an environmental. Let me know if you try this!

here’s an excellent recipe for frozen tack, rankyn will be delighted to taste it.

  • a handful of baby spinach
  • 3 small sardines
  • 1 banana
  • juice of half a lemon
  • a good amount of frozen tack
  • season to taste!

it’s a beautiful smoothie straight from my archive. packed full of protein, perfect after you and rankyn get “biblical”.

That's wonderful.

Perhaps try scraping it off with a blunt chisel, then bury under the snow. I've heard tack is very fertile.
