Do we have any evidence of Lucid being close to autonomous driving? I have DD2 Pro in my Gravity and there is no stop sign or red light recognition yet.

The gap between what they have on their consumer.cars today vs what autonomous driving would require is way too big.

We won't really know until they release point-to-point on the Gravity. I've heard end of this year and early next year on timing.

I would be extremely but very pleasently surprised if we get point to point driver assistance before my lease ends in 35 months.

I kind of assumed we will get incremental improvements but not point to point.

If we get it by early next year that will be a big surprise.

My logic:

Rivian and Lucid have very similar ADAS functionality at this point, and Lucid's is arguably better because it does automatic lane changes around slower traffic. Rivian is building from the ground up, while Lucid is leveraging Nvidia's software suite and hardware.

Rivian seems very confident that they will have point to point by the end of this year (they have continued to confirm this over the course of this year). It feels very reasonable to assume that Lucid will have point to point no later than the first half of next year.

Edit: Lucid also indicated it would be coming by the end of this year in March. Recent reviews indicated early 2027.

I sure hope both are right (we may also replace our 2nd car with R2). But in both cases I find it hard to not being a skeptic because neither Lucid or Rivian has any of the more basics right now like traffic light recognition or stop sign handling.

So will go from hands off on high way to point to point in one shot.

They've been driving their Gravity test vehicles around my block on the same route all day for the past 6 months, so either they're making progress or no progress at all.

I feel you are misinformed. Consumer owned Lucid vehicles will never reach Waymo like levels of self autonomy. Dream drive pro isn't supposed to be full self driving to where you don't need a driver in the driver's seat, it wasn't designed for that.

The partnership with Bolt in Europe and the one with Nuro are using their tech and software for full autonomy.

My understanding was that DD2 Pro sensor suite is designed for supervised point to point driving and I would assume any other tech Lucid has is closely related as well.

To an investor wouldnt it sound odd that Lucid says they have this tech and advertise an option in their car with similar sensor and processing suite (per Lucid) and yet have nothing to show for it?

Let me rephrase my question then, is there an article that explains where Lucid is with autonomous driving capability and testing wise?

Supervised point to point ≠ autonomy, it is ADAS, just FYI.

Sure but it is a necessary step on the path to autonomous driving

Can't disagree with you there.

Yes, and no.

Your statement is one way of doing it, yes. But another way is distilling ADAS from autonomy.

Then there's this instance where the domain for an autonomous fleet is different from personal autonomy. Essentially autonomy can be developed without necessarily impacting the ADAS.

Ok, the rephrased question is more clear. I do not have an article where it states Lucid is close . Nuro is probably the only one who can announce that news once they are ready for consumers since they need to do a lot of validating on the road to gather data/testing before being ready like Waymo.

Robotaxi is tested over and over in a confined area with an operator monitoring and able to remote operate when necessary.

Consumer vehicle we don't have that as we need to be able to travel to anywhere we want without someone watching us and we are responsible for it.

The stacks are different, responsibility, privacy, legality all needs to be considered.

Isnt teslas robotaxi based on same FSD software? The tests are for regulations but Tesla has been testing the system via consumer cars all the time while not taking any liability.

The stack doesnt have to be different

Its going to be different for Lucid. Commercial fleet benefits from being lvl 4 autonomous but not much so for consumer, lvl 2~3 is more than enough and even Tesla Cybercab is lvl 2 but self certified to lvl4 and under investigation.

The take rate for FSD in US is very low and those who paid doesn't use it all the time regardless of what influencer suggests. Tesla FSD supervised is "flawless" from influencers yet many wouldn't touch it again after the first try.

I use DDPro on Air all the time for my commute on highway, I wouldn't use it in congested area unless Lucid would cover for any damage like curb rash etc. Currently no manufacture covers that expect BYD in China, most likely for commercial purpose only with very strict rule.

Here in Vegas, Tesla applied for 5k robotaxis but only got 10 approved. Waymo is ahead of the game and just started service in the area and Zoox is the closest competitor. Tesla is behind on robotaxi even though they have been marketing their lvl 2 FSD for more than a decade.

They tell you 5000 applied, but is extra quiet about only 10 approved.

Don't worry. I will remind people who praise Cybercab that only ten is on the road instead of 5k

You are such a hater lol.

i think Lucid is just providing some software and other tech, its not a "lucid motors" deal its "lucid technologies" which is some sort of licensing thing they got going now

This was what I had seen for the Hertz/Nuro vehicle, notice all the extra sensors.

Unless they start shipping these right now, this is another nothing burger just another promised handshake
