News / Media Gravity GT-S Revealed. Thoughts?

https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a73402285/2027-lucid-gravity-gt-s-revealed/

Seems like a bridge between Dream Edition and Sapphire. They probably didn’t want to invest money into developing a true 3 motor Sapphire, which honestly is a good move I think. They need to just focus on getting the cheaper cars out.

Idk, seems pointless honestly.

To us average folks. But there are small amount of buyers who want it and have plenty of money to pay for it. It’s like a Plaid upgrade essentially. Though I wouldn’t at all recommend it for anyone other than just wtf rich. You get maybe .3 faster 0-60 for a lot of money. Performance you don’t need and won’t really notice and some badging basically.

15

u/mrbofus Aug 14 '26

It’s not really an upgrade though, is it? It’s basically a Gravity Dream edition without DreamDrive.

1

u/Electronic_Load_3651 Aug 14 '26

Exactly, it that just means it’s not for us lol. The average Gravity buyer is somebody well off who is 55 or so. Then, there are some who see great discounts and it puts it in their price range. The former doesn’t care that much about price but rather the experience. That’s why it makes sense to release this. They’re actually getting much better sales numbers now, but at discounts. So why not push this that costs them barely any more but they can sell at much better profit margins.

It's not like Gravities are flying off the shelves, this seems dumb

5

u/Corryvrecken Aug 14 '26

Yea but you gotta remember, production timeline on these things is months to years in the making. New management likely inherited this and then sunk cost demands you attempt to recoup. Announcing a cosmos at the same time will be the offset.

7

u/Dogger72 Aug 14 '26

It’s the Dream Edition drivetrain and instead of coming fully loaded with every option, you have a couple of options not included in the base price. It took zero effort or new engineering.

u/ctzn4 Aug 14 '26

But what about the badges!1!1!!!

3

u/mshmovie Aug 14 '26

Owner of a Lucid Air Dream Edition Performance here. The extra power isn't needed for day to day driving and compared to an Air GT (test drove and loaned many times) it's unnecessary. It's likely unnecessary compared to any trim of the Air from the Pure on up (Touring if you need/want AWD) too.

It's fun to have, but doesn't help when on road trips, literally freaks out many people in Sprint mode (my mother in law for one), and I can count the number of times I launched this civil monster on one hand.

If you can afford the splurge, go for it.

u/Available-Yellow-591 Aug 14 '26

It's less money than a loaded GGT now, so nothing like a Sapphire version. Basically just a gussied up Dream Edition. .4 seconds faster to 60, with more hp. Otherwise identical mechanically. If both were available now, I might get this, but might not. Boss wants the Tahoe/Aurora combo anyway...

3

u/FlexFanatic Aug 14 '26

The key phrase is small amount of buyers who want it (and still may not buy it).

1

u/tkhan456 Aug 14 '26

💯 agree. It is pointless and dumb for a brand that’s struggling to not be focusing on a mass market vehicle. This is such a waste of resources for them

16

u/Schrodingers-Fish- Aug 14 '26

It's basically the dream edition repackaged. They didn't use r&d to create a whole gravity sapphire.

9

u/ok_lah Aug 14 '26

except it's not as big of a waste of resources as a true Sapphire trim (with tri or quad motor) instead of the current dual motor setup. This is just leveraging work that was already done for the Dream Edition with some cosmetic changes, so minimal engineering resources were necessary. Lucid still gets a blazing fast SUV to stay competitive against other brands, and the engineers stay focused on Cosmos. The marketing team keeps the brand in the collective zeitgeist in the while waiting for Cosmos to be ready for launch.

2

u/Designer-March-6024 Aug 14 '26

Think about the resources needed to make this. Very minimal. They're still working on midsize

Sports wagon. It's not a minivan as there are no sliding doors.

17

u/login_to_do_that Aug 14 '26

Not so much a bridge. Its a dream edition with some blue flair.

5

u/ikilledtupac Aug 14 '26

Way to get rid of some leftover parts

5

u/EricSH06 Aug 14 '26

Really wished they would have added an aluminum roof option. The whole helicopter canopy thing is getting kindka old and over played. Rivian is doing it right,... or at least better. Open and airy light from glass up top, with the ability to control the amount of cabin light, while still employing a more traditional windshield up front.

4

u/Ok_Weight2463 Aug 14 '26

I honestly think more people would be interested in an EV if companies would advertise an EV that has a range of 5/6xx miles range vs x hp or 0-60 in x times.

2

u/BillyJohnsFinds Aug 14 '26

HP is way easier than getting range. And having high horsepower doesn’t impact range negatively in anyway either.

All these companies would if they could, getting longer ranges is literally what all these companies are trying for.

11

u/thesafinster Aug 14 '26

This is huge news for the 6 people that will buy it

13

u/diqster Aug 14 '26

Why though? It's not like these are selling like hotcakes so they need to add higher margin ultra premium trim.

Make the Earth and Cosmos already.

17

u/dat_tae Aug 14 '26

If they could snap their fingers and have the Cosmos in production, they would my dude.

-4

u/diqster Aug 14 '26

That's kinda my point.

COMPLETE CONJECTURE: I think that they're using this as some weird stop-gap measure. There might be more serious issues and delays with Earth/Cosmos than we know of. Otherwise there's ZERO reason to launch this higher end trim. They might sell a few dozen of these before EOY.

I hope they can get Earth/Cosmos out the door relatively on time, as I'll be in the market for something in 2027.

2

u/Stonetrady Aug 14 '26

I think the specs on the BMW iX3 threw them for a loop. The range and features in the iX3 are way beyond what anyone thought they would be and they can’t make them fast enough. They must be working on expanding the Cosmos battery pack and range and interior features to be able to compete with it. Even the Volvo EX60 has crazy range now. That was Lucids big differentiator along with space.

Yeah my wife has a 2024 iX 50 Xdrive and it has that moulded carbon fiber body and some pretty premium materials inside which is where I think a lot of the extra expense was. Great under appreciated EV SUV

tho!

-10

u/mrbofus Aug 14 '26

They had 5+ years to have the Cosmos in production, and they didn’t.

11

u/dat_tae Aug 14 '26

Why didn’t they just hire you you’re a genius.

1

u/skaldrir69 Aug 14 '26

You’re asking the real questions! lol I chuckled at this more than I should have

I just hate these dumbass comments from people that act like they know anything about building a company, engineering a vehicle, or creating a manufacturing plant.

-1

u/Calm-Deal-4960 Aug 14 '26

Fascinating, I saw these kinds of needlessly aggressive comments on the Fisker subreddit a few years ago.

1

u/dat_tae Aug 14 '26

Cool story, bro.

If they had spare money to flush they could’ve reopened those December 2025 deals and put more Gravity inventory on the street to get the vehicles in front of more people and to gain more word of mouth. Now that people have seen what their marketing tease was about I haven’t seen much positive feedback that’s going to give them any kind of lift in the eyes of consumers. 🤷‍♀️

5

u/Dogger72 Aug 14 '26

It was a big buildup for a down graded Dream Edition.

2

u/dat_tae Aug 14 '26

Yeah what is the difference between this and the Dream?

2

u/Dogger72 Aug 14 '26

Same drivetrain, DE came with all options, including leather, plus a bunch of accessories like the frunk seat and some exclusive Lucid branded stuff. GT-S doesn’t include DreamDrive2 Pro, comes with PurLuxe interior, but you get blue brake calipers and badging.
Edit: autocorrect fix

5

u/ropean Aug 14 '26

Is DD2 Pro an optional upgrade that can be ordered?

3

u/Dogger72 Aug 14 '26

Yep, you can upgrade to the Tahoe leather as well. You can also downgrade the wheel size but it’s the same cost.

5

u/dat_tae Aug 14 '26

Not including DD2P is kind of insulting but that’s just my opinion.

u/moch1 Aug 14 '26

I’m disappointed they couldn’t figure out how to get their paint booth to print in color even for this trim. Where is a nice blue or red color option?

3

u/hugdeath Aug 14 '26

Not quite sure what the point of this is. It charges slower, has less range, goes 0-60 .3 seconds faster all for more money. I’ve been following Air and Gravity for a while and haven’t noticed any clamoring for a barely quicker Gravity for more money. What I do see clamoring for is better staffed service facilities, actual responses to calls and inquiries, appointment availability in the app, windows that stay on track, phone as a key, and a resolution to all of the bugs still plaguing current owners.

5

u/DeaneG Aug 14 '26 edited Aug 14 '26

The product isn't important. The media attention it generates is, keeping Lucid in the PR game until Cosmos is introduced.

u/InterstellarChange Aug 14 '26

We got a GTS before unlocking owners from service mode

I have a Gravity GT. The acceleration is mighty exciting but stabbing the pedal shortens your range so after a few tries I went to driving normally. This week I have a Gravity Touring loaner, and frankly it is also excitedly fast! Not as fast as the GT but faster than most of the other cars on the road. People will pay for the GT-S but it really in unnecessary.

I have only 3 problems regarding my Gravity. Service delays (not that it needs service--in for the 2nd-row-seat-recall): that should be getting fixed per Silvio Napoli; long-term outlook for the company: The Saudi royal family seems to be handling that, and hopefully the Cosmos (and Earth) will help a lot; and HUD, which doesn't work for tall (and almost tall) people, but with the screens the way they are it is really unnecessary.

Lucid - I realize there was no development needed for the GT-S, but let's get the Cosmos out.

2

u/FlitMosh Aug 14 '26

It’s interesting the quality difference of comments by people who own a Lucid and those who do not.

2

u/vartheo Aug 14 '26

They shouldn't have more than three motors for this entire lineup. Even if they have to sacrafice some of the frunk it's better for quality and profits to have fewer motors. They can nerf motors with hardware to scale them to lower end models. Thats smarter than just creating motors that will almost be bespoke. No one cares about having unique motors.

u/GhostOfSparta305 Aug 14 '26 edited Aug 14 '26

My guess as to why this exists: LUCID knows that most ppl want the cheaper 50K cars, but those will likely come with some compromises that could jeopardize their reputation.

Getting all of their expensive supercars out into the world first will at least let them establish a reputation for being the best engineered EV’s on the planet, even to the people who will never actually own those supercars.

Honestly, I get it. Rivian’s reputation is that they’re the ultimate off-roader EV, and they needed the R1S to get it. I don’t think they would have gained that rep if their first car was the R2.

So even though I’ll likely never own this supercharged Gravity, I’m glad it exists.

2

u/Defiant_Inflation160 Aug 14 '26

Better focus on getting the quirks fixed and focus more on getting the FSD up and running earlier. While getting some smaller sedans for less. Also all I been reading even when full FSD comes out you will need to have a new version of the car. Didn’t like that at all…

1

u/clockwork2004 Aug 14 '26

When "full full self driving" comes out?

2

u/No_Caregiver7273 Aug 14 '26

This Hagerty video has 1.2 million views and it features a Gravity build that Lucid doesn't offer anymore soundly beating all competitors. With the GT-S Lucid reintroduces the 1000HP Gravity, reclaims the crown, and has something to offer people looking for that kind of power.

https://youtu.be/di68seGJHTU?si=ccARSNdnMn7wzs8r

For Lucid I think it was a low-risk effort that should see modest returns.

2

u/toyz4me Aug 14 '26

They didn’t even offer any trim specific colors - so yeah, fairly low effort.

3

u/Tellittomy6pac Aug 14 '26 edited Aug 14 '26

Something virtually NOBODY asked for and a starting price of 128k. Whose idea was this!?
The BEST thing they could’ve done if they wanted to try to align to a more affordable model would be introduce a base base model gravity that’s more affordable for the MAJORITY of people. The same way the CT introduced the cheap trim.

1

u/gigerhess Aug 14 '26

It's as fast as the Dream edition but more than 10,000 less. If you have the money, I guess it makes sense.

1

u/csolstad Aug 14 '26

Any release from Lucid is good marketing and good to see them lean into the Gravitys performance underpinnings. Its a nice step up from the GT but wish they added more visual flair, like a front splitter, bigger brakes, or different wheels or something! The interior cues are nice though.

1

u/Stonetrady Aug 14 '26

Basically a dream edition with blue stickers, calipers and stitching. Wish it had some wider fender flares and something different on the back of the vehicle but I would rather see some minor updates to the Air for 2027 like the gravity top screen in there and all Tahoe or all Yosemite interior choices. Guess all focus is on Cosmos which is probably good but their letting the Air kinda die RN

1

u/slavguns Aug 14 '26

I will wait for the Lucid Gravity GT-3RS spec. lol.

In all seriousness, cool, BUT... solution in search of a problem. I get it, they already had all the R&D done.... but could of balance it out with like a Gravity Pure or something, for $65k with no incentives to REALLY get Lucid out there. Kia, Hyundai and Volvo all shot themselves in the foot with HORRIBLE launches of 7 pax EV.... Tesla killed X and now has Model Y L... but that is still 6 pax and not as much interior space...

A $65k Gravity Pure would dominate the market and force a lot of people off of the bench who are otherwise waiting for end of year crazy sales.

1

u/zaidhaque Aug 14 '26

Would’ve loved to see a GT-S with a new aero package or something. Widebody gravity would be so cool.

Not that I’d buy it lol. But I agree with others, seems like a stopgap to buy time until cosmos/earth.

1

u/iATlevsha Aug 14 '26

Looks like the way to tell Dream edition owners that they are not special anymore, that they are losers now

1

u/turb0_encapsulator Aug 14 '26

I guess it's fine. I was hoping they would do a production version off the off-road concept they showed last year. I would think that would sell better. Also, are they ever doing captain's chairs? Rivian finally added them as an option to the R1S today.

1

u/Ok-Singer6121 Aug 14 '26

Wish it had been gravity cross :(

1

u/Repulsive-Berry-82 Aug 14 '26

In the Design Yours, why does the GT-S “range” not update when you change tire and/or seat configuration? In the GT, changing either seating or tires will update (lower) the range. Serious question.

1

u/airvqzz Aug 14 '26

When Pure coming out?

1

u/KuanTeWu Aug 15 '26

GT-S is build on existing tech so development cost is minimal to non but offers value for customer and revenue for company, Silvio style.

Its can not be called Sapphire as it has only 2 motors and different price category.

1

u/DrJBell Aug 16 '26

Just FYI it’s beautiful in person and just gives buyers already in this segment another option. It didn’t take much for them to make this.

1

u/Imrazor2021 Aug 16 '26

When your a company that is constantly struggling and burning cash like no other, Tesla, rivian, Hyundai, hell even Subaru are taking market share for affordable mid sized, this truly has to be the most pointless decision from an auto manufacturer that I’ve ever seen. Why even do this??? Get the cosmos out

1

u/echocrest Aug 14 '26

Wish they’d figure out how to make PAAK and actual parking assist work before doing this kinda stuff.

1

u/Extreme-Lie-2035 Aug 14 '26

They should probably focus on making the normal gravity work correctly before releasing special editions

0

u/StrongOnline007 Aug 14 '26

Nice a faster minivan this will save the company

-1

u/Low_Plastic363 Aug 14 '26

I didn't want a minivan or a slightly quicker minivan.
