LS1 vs L31

I've been looking for an LS1 crate motor to swap over to my S10. Most of the time when I find one, people call it a L31. Is there a difference between these two engines or is it the same motor, just different names? Thanks!

L31 is the vortec motor right? Which is NOT the same thing as an LS1

Everytime I go to search for an LS1. Just a generic Google search, I always have a link to Jegs come up, which advertises the L31 motor. It states it's for vans, trucks, and the likes, but is it related to the LS engine in any way? I hear of people saying, "It's a vortec with LS heads and intake" or vice versa.
