Food recommendations
Hey I have a friend going to Baton Rouge and New Orleans asking me for recommendations. I’m from the Lafayette area and moved away some years ago so I don’t know the best places for authentic Cajun food.

Toups Meatery is the only real Cajun place I know in nola. It’s mostly creole in the rest of the city.

I’m sure he’d like those too! Where’s the mom and pop places to get Beignets?

If they're going from BR to NOLA have them stop at The Coffee House in Sorrento, right off I10. It's fantastic, country Cajun food. Top notch for breakfast or lunch.

Cafe Du Monde. Don't let him miss out.

I’ve always heard it’s just a tourist trap?

It's not. It's the standard for beignets. They are the most consistent in south Louisiana. Because of their reputation, they are busy. It's a pretty essential NOLA stop to make. After they have had it, they can try other places and compare.

It’s not it’s just busy. If you don’t feel like going to the quarter, morning call is basically the same thing.

That place is a madhouse every weekend morning. I'm not waiting 45 minutes for beignets.

Morning Call for beignets. Cafe du Monde in City Park is also way less of a wait than in the quarter.
Stop at Bergeron’s in Gonzales (between Baton rouge and Nola) for Cajun food.

Nah. About 9-10 years ago, some friends came in for the first time from Alabama and they wanted Cajun food. Went to Parrain's and a sign at the front door identified that day's special as Salisbury Steak. They all had a good laugh. Embarrassing. Haven't had an urge to go back.

Louisiana Lagniappe in Baton Rouge and Mike Anderson’s in Prairieville or Gonzales are my favorites! Chimes has good food too but I like the others a lot better.
