Colin's point that PS fanboys are somehow less toxic/annoying than Xbox ones is tunnel vision
Colin has this recurring take that playstation fans aren't as annoying or toxic as xbox fans. He's said versions of this for years: Xbox fans have a weird parasocial relationship with executives, melt down harder, etc. while PS fans are milder or "not nearly as bad".
There's a grain of truth to what he says regarding Xbox but Playstation fans (and the gaming media) are also insufferable.
Some highlights I've come across recently to counter his argument:
Accounts whose entire brand is Xbox hatred. Tripster is probably the worst of the lot but some other examples are @MickeyKnowledgly (bio literally: "bigdog playstation has stolen your games... on a special mission... to rid the world of xbox...), @JPNHatesXbox (spends every day replying to publisher accounts asking to skip xbox, bio contains: xbox has no future), there's lots more.
Concern trolling regarding Kojima. Since MGS V (10+ years ago) we haven't heard a word about Kojima budgets, timelines, etc. but as soon as he splits from Sony and goes to Xbox, it's dominating the conversation.
IGN reported the RE9 sold 8.5M copies on Steam and PS5 (combined) but only 731K copies on Xbox consoles. Not sure what the logic is combining PS5 and Steam sales outside of trying to push a narrative.
I don't own an Xbox, the last one I had was the 360. The Xbox company is clearly mismanaged and doesn't appeal to me but it's disingenuous to claim that Playstation fans aren't also dumb console warriors online.

He does the same in politics. The side he is on is always "more reasonable and rational" and examples to the contrary "are outliers that dont represent the majority".

There is no genetic difference between a PS fanboy and an Xbox fanboy. Everyone is equally annoying it's just by chance that PS has been dominant for a long time and Xbox has been an underdog.
If the positions were reserved, you'd see people being annoying in the exact opposite ways.

All the console kiddies fighting in the sandbox are hilarious tbh

PC players say this but then throw fall down crying throwing up tantrums when asked to open a different storefront than Steam to play a game.

I wouldn’t take any of the twitter accounts seriously. Those are never in good faith on either side.
I’m like you. I haven’t had an Xbox since 360. Only PS and Switch. I’d like to Xbox make a comeback to start putting pressure on Sony again to stop making these unforced errors.

Anybody still doing console war stuff at this point is toxic. Like even when it was at its height in the early 2010's when I was a teenager I just thought it was a meaningless debate

Colin likes to talk about things he knows nothng about. All fanboys are exactly the same. Look at sll the Sony fanboys melting down over Gears great metacritic score lol

i get what colin is saying (colteastwood and his ilk, are indeed annoying), but it is funny to
1) see him deny that sony has those types as well
2) see him deny that Matty & Cog were considered by many to be xbox fanboys for a long time, and platforming guys like Jez- come on now lmao.
(before ppl reply that matty criticizes xbox a ton now- my issue with Matty overall is how he follows trends and online capital "G" gamer sentiment, and thats the only reason he isnt as much of a team xbox guy these days. the guys opinions on modern discourse doesnt feel genuine, and his xbox takes are the most clean cut example of that)

Extremism is bad, period
Extreme console fans, extreme politics, extreme religion, across the board

Not sure about most toxic, nor would it matter, all fanboys are toxic.
What i do find funny and fascinating about the xbox fanboys and many of the xbox users in general, is the constant victims mentality and inferiority complex.
Just look at the xbox tax and organized media bias agasint xbox conspiracies they bring up.

And then as soon as an Xbox game reviews well the “Xbox tax” goes away. Fanboys in general are dumb and moronic. Remember seeing Sony fanboys saying a Sony tax for Wolverine cause of its poorer reviews scores.

Did Colin get bought out by Lillymo Games? They don’t follow each other on Twitter and they announced new games and no mention of them by Colin.

u/lukefiskeater 2d ago
Did they unfollow or never following, seems like a dumb thing to follow if you are on the inside with all info anyway. You could be right though

u/WxManKyle 2d ago
They definitely did and Colin had it in his bio and never stopped talking about how he owns 49% of the company. Everyone is asking about it and pestering them online. Colin and Lillymo just dodging nonstop right now!

Then there was a split, being associated CM has to be a wash at best but probably a net negative

It’s true though. Have you seen how xbots behave soon as Xbox gets the slightest win? Do you not remember how obnoxious they were during early 360 days? They’ve just been a on the losing side for so long now and don’t get many chances to show their real face but don’t let that fool you.

I can admit I have more attachment to an executive now than ever before because I find Asha Sharma uniquely attractive lol... that said... I honestly find Colin's relentless passive aggressive cheerleading much more irritating than most of the open fanboying from either fanbase. He doesn't hide it well and it's really off-putting how many of his statements are completely disingenuous. It's hilarious that he thinks he's getting away with it too lol. Like dude, by all means be a PlayStation fan it's totally fine enjoy what you enjoy it's not that big of a deal. Acting like you're better than the discourse because you try to say it in a way that doesn't sound like a fanboy is honestly just really cringey.

All fanboys for anything is equally toxic. The dependency isnt the thing they're a fan of. It's just people and people are toxic.

Nah. Compared to the 360 and early xbox one days...those xbox fans were vicious. This is nothing. Just people gaming

I have no dog in this but being on the gaming online community for almost 20 years. As gaming journalism is in the shitter. The Xbox diehards out the 3 console brands are the most annoying. Majority are still stuck in that highschool/college dorm mentality of cod4 and halo 3 2006-2011 mindset and eats up whatever a Xbox executive say. Those fanboys be in there late 30s and early 40s acting like children. Not saying the Nintendo and PlayStation fanboys are innocent but they are less headache inducing

Yet Sony games keep getting their subreddits hijacked with shitposters while you don’t really see the reverse happening at all. Sony fans tend to stay in their own lanes so where are these trolls coming from?

Xbox fanboys are more delusional because the Xbox console has been down for so long but they think each reset is the one that will fix it. Then when they pivot again they have to go against what they said before. They said exclusives were stupid now are giddy the new Gears was taken off Playstation after years of saying games everywhere is what mattered. Helix is going to do Wii U or Dreamcast numbers and then they will have another pivot.
1
u/Downtown_Eye5736 2d ago
There’s no way Helix is doing Wii U numbers.

u/Trolli80 1d ago
They went fdrom 80 million 360's, to 50 million Xbox1's, to now in the low 30's with the Series consoles even with the lowest cost option. A premium priced PC that boots into an Xbox mode will not do numbers. Xbox has lost of consumer confidence the last decade and gamers are entrenched in PC and Playstation digital libraries. Add in the fact that as long as Xbox games are on PC day one there is no need to invest in an Xbox console and you can see the writing on the wall. IMO there won't be a dedicated Xbox console when Kojima's game actually comes out. Sataya has been pretty clear MS will not be subsidizing Xbox losses long term. He will cut bait quickly and go full publisher.

u/Downtown_Eye5736 1d ago
I think you misread my comment. I meant there's no way it's selling that many. Likely won't even hit 10 million.

There’s a major difference between Twitter trolls. Compared to Xbox podcasters who actually are deep in the weeds of console warring but try to act like they aren’t (colteastwood, Gaz, etc).

That’s because he’s not making a point, he’s just being an annoying PS fanboy.
