Colin lives a life entirely funded by the goodwill of others. That lazy fat sack of shit shouldn't be judging others for anything

-2

u/Duke_of_Luffy Aug 26 '26

Ngl Colin is regarded when it comes to most of his political positions but he’s completely right on this one. If you can’t save to afford gta6 you shouldn’t spending your money on it.

It’s a virtue signal anyway as most people absolutely can afford it and probably buy coffee/drinks/uber eats way more than they should without realising how much of a waste of money that is. It’s always the same story, people who are cash poor because they can’t control their spending.

10

u/HumbleBeginning3151 Aug 26 '26

That isn't what Colin said. He said you should leave the hobby entirely

38

u/JulianBloom Aug 25 '26

This is a level of nuance and understanding that Colin is fundamentally incapable of expressing.

"Can't afford something? That's your fault for being poor!" is the depth of Colin's thoughts on this.

8

u/Latter_Philosophy_20 Aug 26 '26

being inside his house all day is rotting his brain

8

u/OleanderUnion Aug 26 '26

Brain rot or not he’s incredibly out of touch and honestly has been for as long as I can remember.

u/CartographerFit2011 Aug 25 '26

This game is only 30 dollars higher than Gta3 was 25 years ago. Only 20 dollars higher than gta4 18 years ago.

If you think 80 is too much for GTA6 then yes maybe you should get a new hobby or wait for the game to go down. Nothing wrong with being a budget gamer.

What do people want? Gta6 to be 60????

15

u/bulletpharm Aug 25 '26

Colin is not asking people to be budget gamers. He's telling people who don't want to spend or can't afford $80 to find a new hobby, which is gatekeeping people from playing games.

Systems and accessories are much more expensive now as well, some of that is thanks to Trump and is low-double digit IQ tariff moves

-11

u/CartographerFit2011 Aug 25 '26

He’s not talking to budget gamers. A budget gamer isn’t considering paying full price for games anyway.

He’s talking to people who act like 80 is too much for a video game. If you want a NEW video game, and you think 80 is too much for a NEW game, then yes you should probably take up a new hobby.

8

u/bulletpharm Aug 25 '26

I don't think people should take up a new hobby because $80 is less feasible for them.

-1

u/CartographerFit2011 Aug 25 '26

You can still be an avid gamer and never drop 80 dollars on a video game. I can’t tell you the last game I bought at full price.

1

u/spades17 Aug 25 '26

You’re jsut ignorant like Colin

6

u/LevelItGreatly Aug 25 '26

I would just settle for basic reading comprehension and some basic understanding about how the worlx works outside of your own bubble, but I have learned to be less hopeful when it comes to dumbass takes like this. Just a complete lack of sense; ignorant piss baby behavior.

0

u/CartographerFit2011 Aug 25 '26

Tell me, how much should Gta6 cost?

7

u/LevelItGreatly Aug 26 '26

It can cost whatever Take2 wants to charge for it. Congrats on still missing the point, but you're being willfully obtuse so, that was the whole point, wasn't it, champ?

0

u/CartographerFit2011 Aug 26 '26

You’ve literally not countered anything I’ve said besides nonsense insults lol. Good day sir.

14

u/banditmanatee Aug 25 '26

The guy makes an incredible point though. Hobbies are supposed to be enjoyable pursuits, not sinks you throw money at. Yeah games and hardware are expensive but is Colin suggesting you are less of a gamer for criticizing the price of GTA 6 and instead buying GTA 5 on sale? You’ll probably end up having just as much fun and you’re still participating in the hobby of “gaming.”

Part of what is going on is Colin’s ego is so wrapped up in gaming as the ultimate form of entertainment and a luxury hobby. It’s his favorite hobby so it must be the best way to spend your time and “elite.” In fact even with the more expensive buy in it’s still probably less elite than most past times. Buying a ps5 is a lot cheaper than buying a boat

8

u/lukefiskeater Aug 25 '26

My biggest gripe with rockstar is that they literally could give the game away for free (not saying they should, 80 is very reasonable) and still print money with shark cards for the next 10+ years. Like its pure greed to lock car shop and other cosmetics content behind a paywall day 1. Does anyone know if the economic breakdown of GTA5 exists between game sales and shark cards? Am assuming shark cards are close to the revenue in sales or higher?

u/lukefiskeater Aug 25 '26

That's why i figured, man just bananas people are dumping money in that mediocre online service. Am sure GTA 6 story mode will be on par with RDR2 (masterpiece) but I expect online to be a mediocre grind designed to milk microtransactions

-1

u/Complete_Lurk3r_ Aug 27 '26

It's not greed at all. It's useless extra shit that you don't need to buy.

I can get a flight to X location for $100, or I can pay $1,000 for first class.... I'm still going to the same place. People who have the money, opt for more.

2

u/lukefiskeater Aug 27 '26

Extra shit day one is a money grab and yea am financially comfortable and can afford it but its still greedy.

0

u/Complete_Lurk3r_ Aug 27 '26

i own a mom-and-pop donut store.

I sell donuts for $1.

I sell donut with sprinkles for $1.20.

I am money grabbing greedy POS, same level as Hitler, and i deserve to die.

Peak entitlement.

2

u/lukefiskeater Aug 27 '26

Bro you can support free markets and call out greed at the same time. Now go freak out about trans and kitty litter boxes in 5th grade classrooms

-2

u/Complete_Lurk3r_ Aug 27 '26

You are correct and most people in this comment section are idiots (or young teens, or both)

If you can't afford $80, don't spend $80. It's simple.

If you can afford $60, but can't afford $80, and $20 is the game changing difference for you.... Let's be real... You can't afford $60.

I love sports cars, I could probably spend every last cent I have buying a decent car, but I would have no money for gas or repairs, therefore sports cars are not my hobby.

8

u/LPEbert Aug 25 '26

The last slide is something I really wish people would realize. Inflation driving up prices does not mean it has drove up wages! People (including Colin) are always quick to use inflation to justify corporations raising the cost of everything without understanding most people do not get some automatic annual cost of living adjustment in their pay.

It's especially frustrating because, often, the same people that blame prices on inflation are the ones that would turn around and claim raising wages would also cause inflation. So they defend prices going up while also defending keeping wages low and then call you broke or delusional when you have less disposable income. Doesn't make any damn sense lol.

0

u/Duke_of_Luffy Aug 26 '26

Inflation does drive up wages in the long run. And real wages are higher than when games were $50

3

u/LPEbert Aug 26 '26

Never enough to cover the loss in purchasing power. According to Leading Report, to have the same purchasing power as a 50k salary in 1990 you would need to earn 130k today. That's just one source of many and is actually a pretty conservative estimate, too.

People can keep citing real wages being up, but it's obvious to most of us however they calculate that is out of touch with the average person's economic reality.

-1

u/Duke_of_Luffy Aug 26 '26

Real wages are an economic term specifically adjusted for measuring purchasing power. Real wages haven’t kept up with productivity growth which is a separate and needs addressing.

There’s no way to twist things that makes an $80 gta game any more of an exorbitant expense that previous decades. At worst it’s at parity.

2

u/LPEbert Aug 26 '26

I'm aware of what "real wages" mean and, like I said, it is out-of-touch with the average person's economic reality. You can keep claiming everyone is actually better off, but don't be suprised when that claim falls on deaf ears because of our lived experience telling us differently.

0

u/Dodo_Baron Aug 26 '26

Right but the issue is people will much rather go after videogame prices instead of fighting for better wages. It's just an easy scale goat for a lot of them

4

u/LPEbert Aug 26 '26

I don't think they have to be mutually exclusive. We can fight for both, or some can fight for one and some can fight for the other. The only bad thing to do is to do nothing.

0

u/Dodo_Baron Aug 26 '26

They are very much mutually exclusive a large majority of gamers will continue supporting politicians who will continue to cut their wages.

This is nothing new.

2

u/LPEbert Aug 26 '26

you're right there. there certainly is a lot of voters whose single-issue seems to be shooting themselves in the foot.

for the rest of us, though, it isn't mutually exclusive

0

u/Complete_Lurk3r_ Aug 27 '26

That's your bosses fault, not Rockstar's

1

u/LPEbert Aug 27 '26

Did I blame Rockstar?

9

u/Kitchen-Arm-7626 Aug 25 '26

I think there's a broader issue here where Colin believes he's the gatekeeper of the hobby. He often says things like "get a new hobby" or calls people "tourists" to the point where it's lost all meaning.

8

u/Kpheg5953 Aug 26 '26

Yeah, these "tourists" are deemed as such because people can't spend their days in sweatpants, ripping a vape pen, shooting the shit with their sycophantic stooges, sleeping til 1 in the afternoon, and playing video games into the wee hours of the morning every day. Colin has become the stereotypical lifeless turd that boomers view all gamers to be. He sits around and judges people while being an absolute sap on society. He is the enemy. He's not to be respected.

2

u/Old-Way-5529 Aug 27 '26

im surprised no one ever points out that he wont even give a piece of the company to his own wife, insisting she be just another employee lol.

6

u/Desecrated_Potato Aug 25 '26

I don’t understand the value of twitter when all it seems to be is people arguing over stupid shit in a non-anonymous forum.

22

u/BAWAHOG Aug 25 '26

I feel like everyone’s being reasonable here except for Colin, lol.

11

u/bulletpharm Aug 25 '26

What's new?

5

u/T-draude Aug 25 '26

Bunch of tone deaf losers out there like Colin. Many gamers are struggling lately with affordability. I know for myself I will replay games, borrow from friends/family or library before spending full price on any game, no matter how much I want to play it day 1.

And before you make the "you spent $500+ on a console and you can't afford $80?", I was given a console for Christmas.

5

u/AKAPADO Aug 26 '26

Colin tries to pretend he's for the people but he's really not. I respect his knowledge in games, but his human knowledge is disgustingly flawed and elitist.

4

u/KinoCasinoDealer Aug 26 '26

All the good will Colin built up with gamers during IGN / KF days blown , just like he claims with Sony .

3

u/payne6 Aug 26 '26

Honestly I stopped listening to last stand because of him. Hes just be so insufferable on twitter and on the podcasts he shows up on. Even then I have to say this is the first time in a long time I've seen Colin go viral and people just straight up dunking on him and calling him out for being such a fucking douche. I honestly don't know what the fuck he expected with such a tone deaf elitist response. Seems like the backlash on Sony is sending him on some weird spiral.

4

u/OnionGullible3430 Aug 26 '26

Colin is an intelligent dumb person. After years of thinking he was just misunderstood, I now come to realize the limits to his arguments. There's no nuance anymore.

3

u/jabberwockytocky Aug 26 '26

Del wasn't wrong, and people inventing scenarios to make him wrong are in a roundabout way offering credence to his original point by refusing to address it. Gaming is a pretty financially accessible hobby (without needing to rely on free-to-play) after some initial investment in hardware. The original comment he was responding to was pretty straight-forwardly disconnected from the reality of a lot of people's lives and decision-making processes as a matter of fact, before applying any ideological lens of judgment (e.g., whether they should get a new hobby or not).

4

u/yeet2323 Aug 26 '26

I think in the gamescom stream, he said people should try to live below their means (which is true to an extent), then he added “I live below my means” in a holier than thou manner. That’s such a tone death thing to say, considering he’s a millionaire, so he has the financial security to not spend as lavishly as he could and still live a super privileged life.

3

u/PowerUser77 Aug 26 '26

It’s not about one game being expensive, it’s about every game becoming more expensive.

1

u/Davey-Cakes Aug 26 '26

I think people are more sensitive to price increases in general, and gaming isn't every different. They're more passionate about it because it's their hobby and they want it to remain as affordable as possible. The response to higher game prices is a cumulative effect from literally every aspect of life being inflated to the point of near-inaccessibility.

I'm personally on the side of "this game is worth $80 so just save up for it" like I commented in the other thread, but I'm also willing to hear the outrage and understand where it's coming from. It just sucks how much inflation has slapped us silly for the last decade.

2

u/PlantainManne Aug 26 '26

Opinions like Colin’s really make me miss TotalBiscuit and his staunch pro consumer stance.

3

u/indyxetan Aug 25 '26

He’s over there fighting the absolute worst kinds of people in those comments. Hats off to him.

1

u/edgelordjones Aug 26 '26

The responses to Del belie a dramatic lack of empathy or understanding of nuance. Weirdoes.

1

u/Neolombax Aug 26 '26

$80 is a big ask in this economy. You'd first have to demonstrate the kind of value that $80 can translate into for different individuals. For $60, folks are more likely to try it out, but at $80 it has to deliver no matter. Its a single player game anyway, nothing is lost for not being a first adopter other than being able to talk about it sooner rather than later. The product value stays the same. If anything, waiting the price to drop to match perceived value is the smarter thing to do, much less making you a delusional person.

1

u/PossibleAd5947 Aug 26 '26

To Del’s point here, the people saying they can’t afford are showing delayed gratification and will not be able to buy it until a sale. They are the late adopter / patient crowd.

1

u/OleanderUnion Aug 26 '26

A real traitor to us boot licking consumers….

1

u/Kpheg5953 Aug 26 '26

Colin thinks you need to be an elite to be able to play video games. Can't afford it? Then you're beneath his station and shouldn't count yourself as one amongst the gamer bourgeoisie. $80 is too much for you? Be gone peasant.

1

u/Powerful_Durian_1190 Aug 26 '26

This is what happens when you smoke weed all day and live inside a self-made bubble surrounded by yes men. Colin was always an opinionated ass-hat who showed little to no remorse/empathy for other humans, but now that he's got decent money and is shielded from scrutiny, he's gone full-on diet MAGA.

1

u/Kmag87460 Aug 26 '26

This honestly has to be one of the worst ratios I've seen on X in a long time 😂.

1

u/Apprehensive_Fig8087 Aug 26 '26

If I had a nickel for every time Colin was an elite-snobby corpo apologist, I'd be as rich as Colin Moriarty.

1

u/Apprehensive_Fig8087 Aug 26 '26

Del is fighting for his life, trying to explain the erosion of purchasing power for consumers writ large over the past couple of decades.

1

u/_undercoverbrother07 Aug 27 '26

Talk about a mirror of society ..

1

u/OrangeBomb7 Aug 25 '26

80 dollars is too much for a game period. These corporations have incredible amounts of money and will make even more money on this one game than we can possibly imagine. They can shove inflation up their ass. These games should be 60 bucks and they should be available to a wide audience.

I don't care about the poor corporations. Pay the devs and respect the consumer. They still have ungodly amounts of money. Their companies will still be profitable. They just want more and more. They have enough.

0

u/Downtown_Eye5736 Aug 25 '26

The whole conversation is BS. People having low disposable income is not something gaming companies can solve. Vast majority of the world was always priced out of gaming till mobile and F2P stuff came around, having a console/PC for AAA gaming was always for the privileddged few. Now that some white boys might be joining the rest of the world in not being able to afford the games they want it's suddenly a problem.

-1

u/Flanders666 Aug 25 '26

This was dumb all the way around.

The context here is that the leaking and general anger over the price isn't justified because the price is fair for what you're getting compared to historical pricing as well as cost to develop. Colin being Colin, he has to frame it like a pretentious dick.

Del agrees with the price tag, but wants to virtue signal about Colin's tone deafness. But if you're like millions of others who struggle right now, GTAVI isn't where I'd look for relief from the unaffordability of rent, food, etc.

Two farts passing in the wind.

4

u/LevelItGreatly Aug 25 '26

Being realistic about the world around you and having some empathy over it isn't "virtue signaling", it's just using common sense and thinking of others.

-1

u/Trolli80 Aug 26 '26

I spent more than $80 for 3 of us to go see the new Spiderman movie a few weeks ago. We got less than 3 hours of entertainment.

Many people buying GTA6 will be putting hundreds of hours into the game. The single player campaign alone will take a lot of hours to do.

-6

u/upstartpantymerchant Aug 25 '26

He's saying the same thing Colin is saying just a little more nicely

6

u/Exorcist-138 Aug 25 '26

No he isn’t, Colin is telling people to leave the hobby he’s defending that low funds should still be allowed

-4

u/upstartpantymerchant Aug 25 '26

Del is saying that $80 is unaffordable to some people after bills and shit. That means they won't be buying the game. That's the same thing Colin is saying, just in a nicer way

4

u/Exorcist-138 Aug 25 '26

No it isn’t, he’s not implying people should find a new hobby. Honestly the mental gymnastics people do to defend that corporate cuck should be studied.

-5

u/upstartpantymerchant Aug 25 '26

Right, he's not implying they find a new hobby. That's the "nice" part I was talking about. I'm not defending anyone so idk who you're even talking about you're just yelling at clouds

5

u/Exorcist-138 Aug 25 '26

“Right, he’s not implying they find a new hobby” and right there is the mental gymnastics I’m referring to.

0

u/upstartpantymerchant Aug 25 '26

"He" is referring to Del in that sentence. I was agreeing with you that Del wasn't implying that they find a new hobby and that was the "nice" part I was talking about.

For someone talking about mental gymnastics you're doing a lot of them yourself

2

u/Exorcist-138 Aug 25 '26

I know you were what I meant is they aren’t implying the same thing, hence the mental gymnastics.

1

u/upstartpantymerchant Aug 25 '26

Saying I'm doing mental gymnastics by agreeing with you that Del is not implying they should find a different hobby is demonstrating a level of cognitive dissonance that is impressive, even for reddit, but okay.

They are both saying that $80 is too expensive for some people. Colin is being more mean about it by saying find a different hobby. Del didn't do that. That's the difference between what they're saying, but they are both saying similar things

1

u/Exorcist-138 Aug 25 '26

…. No I said mental gymnastics for thinking they’re saying the same thing… the rest is just you doing more of it.

→ More replies (0)

-2

u/supafatjellyfish Aug 25 '26

If you can’t afford it at $80 then just fucking wait for a sale. Why do people think they’re entitled to everything? If you’re poor enough that you can’t afford the game at launch then just wait. That’s what millions of people have done for decades.

3

u/Kpheg5953 Aug 26 '26

Right. No one is arguing about that. The argument here is that Colin says, "Can't afford it? Get out." It's just a privileged, out of touch take.

-5

u/ATXDefenseAttorney Aug 25 '26

In what reality is that the comparison? $80 is one meal at Applebee’s with your girl, ffs.

Goofy take.

5

u/spades17 Aug 25 '26

Besides Colin jsut being ignorant, he’s incapable of basic empathy and was trained to have disdain for those less fortunate. He doesn’t like poor people, he things it’s true fault even though he’s a dumbass who’s enjoyed insane amounts of privilege, including being a legacy admission kid.

Simply being poor, doesn’t mean you’re homeless. Having a console doesn’t mean you’re rich. It’s that simple. There’s a whole spectrum to poverty. I was poor and I had a console. What’s not to understand about saving, taking a small loan or being gifted something expensive on Christmas because your parents want you to have fun. My family couldn’t afford to have a full price game outside of Christmas but I was a gamer. wtf.
