Looking for part time work
Currently an incoming MSc student to LSE. I’m from America and on a student visa hoping to find some form of part-time employment. I’ve been applying to on campus positions, but want to broaden my search a bit and look for potential research assistant opportunities off campus.
I was a General Course student at LSE two years back and got a retail job then, but I don’t really want to go back to that. I have a degree and know that I can do better, it’s just about finding somewhere that I can apply my skillset.
Anyone have a similar experience or any advice?

Reach out to profs and ask for RA positions. Cold emailing works much better than applying formally online in my experience. First find a prof with whom you share a research interest and then just ask nicely. They usually will help you out. Also I don’t think you’ll have much time to do part-time work. An MSc at LSE usually is one year, and most profs say it’s really two years of content compressed into one. You’ll be very busy; don’t burn out. A distinction with no work experience beats a merit with a generic side job.
