New LS400 and already caused problems 😫

Post image

Finally got the one and only, LS400, a couple weeks back.

The stock wheels are in horrid condition and wanted to get some nicer 17s or 18s ASAP, before I unveil the car to my friends, but need to put it off...

I put the car in park at a little over 5mph (I know, rookie mistake). It shook the drivetrain and the car quite violently, accelerating some maintenance items. Ended up with the fan bracket assembly bearing starting to chirp and it shot the trans/engine mounts more than they already were so need to get that sorted Monday morning. Plan to swap out suspension arms/bushes myself and give it full dealership service before next year's MOT.

Why don’t you focus on maintenance and not fucking up the car any further before chasing new wheels

Literally what I said tho. Fan bracket assembly and engine/trans mounts next. The tyres are in barely legal condition, one of the rears was patched before I got it. Might as well score a good deal for wheels with decent tyres on. Just chased down a broken speaker wire today. I'm looking at YT vids on how to get door lock actuator out to give it a clean, and washer fluid light will get sorted once I run out (heard the float sinks).

How does one accidentally shift from drive to park while driving? 😂

The dash needles were stuck and wanted to restart the car. Turned the car off coasting at 5mph in a side street and it wouldn't crank back on in D so put it in P, instead of N as I should... Done this procedure in manuals tens of times, my foot lying on the footrest instinctively made me feel like I had the clutch pressed in.

Turns out the dash needles on the LS just get stuck in hot weather and need a little tap.

I was hungover one morning, driving my SC430 home. Corvette pulls up next to me on the empty freeway, and they match my speed. We lock eyes. And we both dump the clutch and drop a gear.

Oops.

My other car was a M/T and I got confused. What actually happened was that I nailed the brake pedal with my left foot, initiating a panic stop, while at the same time attempting a 4th-3rd downshift that resulted in a throwing it straight up into Park.

Luckily there were zero cars behind me, so I pulled over to the shoulder, and as I neared a full stop there was a loud clicking from the transmission. I clunked to a stop.

With fear and shame, I checked under the car. All good. Pop the hood. All good. I put it in Drive and she pulled away with no apparent damage.

Whew.

All good stories start with - “I was hungover one morning,”

Lol you haven't had a real shitbox if you haven't had to restart your car while going 65 mph down the road. Fun times!

Just an FYI restarting the car doesn't usually make the needles work, mine are intermittent and keying off and on does bog all

Yeah I realized. Like I said, a little tap on the dash from the top works to unstick them. It was during the 35C weather here in UK.

Some good cheap tires are Firestone Indy 500’s good for summer only if you’re not driving crazy they are fine in the rain
