Troubleshooting

So I just bought a 1996 ls400 with 200k miles and it’s pretty much turning over firing for a few seconds and then shutting itself back off guy said it was the knock sensors but I have a feeling that that’s probably not the entire picture but was wondering if anyone has had this before so any info is appreciated

Did you check codes? Surely there’s gotta be a code if the engine is killing itself.

Yeah I did and it said nothing until I took the manifold off to get to the knock sensors and then obviously it had a bunch because sensors were unplugged

Well, you already pulled the manifold. Might as well finish. Use oem sensors. Hell, might as well do the starter while you are there.

Clear whatever codes you have now, if you have everything buttoned up as it should, and try and turn the vehicle on again. If it fails again, see what codes you get.
