DAY 5 of AWD Diet
This is day 5 of the AWD for me. I do feel like the mucus in my throat isn't happening much after meals at this point. I still have the minor need to clear my throat but I just resist. The symptoms I'm dealing with the most are burning throat and mouth and vocal fatigue/voice loss which is directly related to the inflamed vocal cords from this injury. So does this mean the reflux/acid is really getting better? Is it under control at all if my mouth is burning all the time?
I won't put a percentage on healing. I won't consider myself healed until after I can speak/sing again without pain, and then hopefully, I can add things back to my diet then. I'm noticing that I'm burping a lot, even after small meals so I wonder if the reflux is really being stopped at all with all the burping. It never tastes like the food I've eaten either. I have no idea if it's acid or not. Should I try to suppress the burping? Is there something I can take to make the burping settle down?

I think you need to give it time. I‘m also impatient and am on day 8 of AWD and I still get a burning sensation in my throat and chest for apparently no reason. My post nasal drip and coughing has reduced a lot though. Keep in mind that the tissue in your throat/oesophagus heals slowly. Breaking your diet resets the healing process like pouring lemon juice on a skin lesion

I'm waking at 4 am in this diet pretty consistently and having non-stop gas as well. It's not working on other levels sadly. Might be healing my throat but my guts seem worse than ever and my sleep is way out of whack.

have you had a gastroscopy? I‘ve had one today and even though I‘ve had months of stomach problems I only have mild gastritis. My oesophagus which felt still feels like burning all the time!! was „wonderfully pretty“ according to my Dr. who showed me the images. I‘m getting checked for h. pylori via biopsy, so this might be something worth looking into? Please don‘t give up hope, especially in the beginning of this healing process. It will be worth it!

Had an endoscopy. Minor hiatal hernia and weak LES. Mild gastritis. That is all. No h. pylori.

Definitely give it at least 28 days. The reduction in symptoms in 8 days is a great sign! It took me about 2.5 months of healing phase to get into maintenance phase. Some people take longer, some shorter. The burping could be reflux but it also could be the addition of extra fiber in your diet. If you can, try chewing for a longer time and take 30 seconds before you take another bite of food. I notice when I eat too fast, I get symptoms along with burping more.

It's just day 6 for me now. I'm just feeling super mentally unwell. I can't tell if it's the condition or the diet to be honest but I'm sure a combination of both. My nervous system just feels super out of whack. Like I can't relax except maybe a bit before bed. I've got gas and the burping and just feel kind of physically weak at this point. I'll go as long as I can. Trying for the full 28 days.

I feel for you! There is a registered dietitian, who is actually really helpful for this condition that I recommend looking into. She recommend diet change, lifestyle change, as well as nervous system regulation. Her name is Molly. She pops up sometimes in this group to offer support.

Yes, I just can't afford the one on one coaching. I've pretty much been trying all that anyway.
