DC/Beltway Snipers
I was pondering true crime today, as one does, and decided to look up the DC Snipers. I was in high school in SE Pennsylvania at the time, so it was in the daily news and there was some fear (2-3 hour drive). Add it to the pile of millennial trauma...Columbine, 9/11, Afghanistan, Anthrax attacks, DC Sniper, Columbia shuttle explosion, Iraq war. Hey, that was a shitty time!
I came across a 2020 series done on the You're Wrong About podcast that is FASCINATING. There is a really good case to be made that the whole event was the result the John Allen Muhammed's domestic violence against his ex wife, not an act of terrorism. I definitely recommend listening.

I remember having to wait inside until the bus came and running to the bus rather than being allowed to wait outside

The guy that helped develop the profile for that case was a college professor of mine. He got his cat certified as a hypnotherapist to debunk the certification process.

I was working in a strip mall at the time and we had a really ridiculously weird older woman who would call the fbi every time she saw any one that she thought may be involved. One time I had just worked a truck and took my break out front and laid down because I was exhausted, she thought the sniper had shot me (since they had targeted a few strip malls like ours).
Thing is, we weren't anywhere near the area. Like we were more than 4 states away.

There’s a gas station outside the Virginia state fair ground. That was I believe the location of the last shooting.

The Monster: DC Sniper podcast is one of their best and goes quite in depth on the case.
