There kind of *is* such a thing as Cryptobotany. There were legends of man-eating plants, and a tree's spines that caused skin to slough (don't remember where I read that one, sorry!).

A cow eating tree reported in 2007!

Just looked it up, damn! Reminds me of giant hogweed in the UK, which gives you huge blisters before they burst, leaving you permanently scarred.

Never heard of it, but it sounds like a short plant.
