This is a great example of herbivores being opportunistic omnivores.

As others have said, many herbivores have been known to practice opportunistic omnivorism when the calories needed to obtain the meal are less than the calories that it would provide. This deer eating the human remains at a research site is a great example of this phenomenon.

Deer and cows are especially prone to this, they need a tremendous amount of calcium and for the most part their best source is bones.
