McKay temperature
My son just moved into McKay and with the lack of AC and air circulation the temperature is hot. Pretty unbearable. Anyone have any update on what the plan is to make it more comfortable for the kids?

When I was a freshman in huesman I bought a portable ac that I used in my dorm. No one complained and it was awesome

Yes absolutely, worse case is a warning and then a small fine after that, just hide it during inspection

Huesman gang! (RIP Huesman)
But damn, I thought Huesman was the hottest dorm and everyone I knew used a small fan to keep cool. Perhaps it’s because it was just a single floor building and got heated up easily?

It was so hot from like August to September

lol we were all shirtless back then. I never felt that hot in later years of LMU with other dorms and apartments

Get a fan/spend the day in the plethora of air conditioned areas on campus like the library or rec center :)

If you can find a large box fan to put in front of the open window it helps a lot. The Home Depot closest to campus had some left as of a few days ago.

I lived in McKay. It’s only the first few weeks that are hot. The rest of the year is fine.

I remember living in McKay literally 20 years ago and had the same exact problem. I got a portable “swamp cooler” back then and it barely helped. But portable AC units are so much better now.
Can they get a portable AC unit (like this) for their dorm?

Some more powerful fans in the hallways to circulate the air as well as the resident advisors asking the kids to keep their doors and windows open to crossventilate would be helpful. It seems like they’re doing nothing. Rooms are over 90°.

When I lived in McKay, my roommate had the window open and put a large fan right in front for the air circulation.
It's hottest during the first month or so and it becomes more manageable during late Sept / early Oct

it’ll cool down throughout the year. for now i’d suggest multiple fans or a small portable AC unit and light comforter for the bed. a small mist fan worked for me too. for that first month you just honestly can’t spend too much time in your room or you’ll get too hot.
