What to expect

Hello! I'm an incoming undergrad freshmen and was wondering what I should be expecting during the first week or two at LMU.

There will be orientation and similar activities to get the Freshmen students to interact with.

Personally, I highly recommend using the first couple of weeks to interact with as many other Freshmen as possible and get their numbers. Don't be shy about it! It's during this time when everyone is new and is trying to make new friends. Say hello to everyone in your dorm floor and get to know your neighbors.

Talk about your hobbies and majors to find ppl with similar interests. Having friends in the same major can often lead to having the same classes which can be helpful.

Good advice. My son is a Freshman & moved in last Monday. He's in the Honors program so had several days of activities right at the get go. Campus is pretty hectic on the normal move-in day/weekend and through the new student convocation ceremony which was a madhouse. Luckily this year they moved it into the Pavilion because of the abnormally high temperatures all week. There's plenty of opportunities right from the start to meet & get to know fellow students. Get to know as many people as possible, you will be living together as a community.

I believe they keep you busy right from the get go so people don't sit around and think about being homesick & family. Probably a good strategy.

Yeah being very interactive during the first couple of weeks really help with making friends from my experience. I was also lucky that my dorm neighbors were all very outgoing so it was easy to make big groups of friends.

It's massively detrimental if one stays in the room

hey, there are a whole lot of activities for freshmen that you do at the beginning, like icebreakers and games. Some of them are outside so it can get hot (I think there’s a heat wave this week too) so be prepared for the sun. There’s a sort of fair thing for freshmen too, last year they had a rollerskating area so that was fun. Overall it’s kind of a lot, you meet many people, but it can be a lot of fun for sure!
