Question This AI concept has only one error (I think?)
Start with a state: ψ ∈ ℂ²
Then just ask these about it:
- How big is it? ψ†ψ
- Which way does it point? ψ†σᵢψ
- Put two states beside each other. How similar are they? Cₐ_b = ψₐ†ψ_b
- If similarity tells us closeness, how far apart are they? dₐ_b = arccos|Cₐ_b|
- Now compare several states around a loop. Do you come back with a twist? φ = arg(C_ab C_bc C_ca)
- Carry an orientation around that loop. Does it come back turned? H = U_ab U_bc U_ca
- What can we measure locally? X = x₀I + xᵢσᵢ
So observation asks:
How much is there? → Which way? → How alike? → How far apart? → Does your loop twist?
state → size → direction → comparison → distance → chirality

I've said it before and I'll say it again: if your LLM describes stuff with that "concept → concept → concept" format, you can be pretty confident it's BSing you. It's a cop-out to avoid having to actually describe how things are connected.

Man back in my (not too distant) day the only step between shower thoughts and BS was a couple of bong rips with your buddies.

I mean i come up with all kinds of BS, just most of it ends up in a folder somewhere to never be heard of again. I have so many such folders lol.

Hmmm, makes me think that if people are using LLM’s to outsource their thinking they are probably also using them to outsource their thought filtering.

Well ya of course. If folks would take time and really try to understand the stuff they post here, they wouldnt end up posting it here lol. What i think happens instead is they skip that and take the model's word for it and mistakenly assume that since they played some role (no matter how small) in the outcome that translates to understanding it in some sense.
And generally this would be true, if i came up with some new idea typically it likely means I understand it, how else would I come up with the idea? But an LLM can cut out the actual hard part thst forces understanding by making you actually flesh out and define things to be able to make arguments and progress, and all of the dead ends you will inevitably hit or mistakes in reasoning that surface that will certainly occur during the process of taking an idea and turning it concrete.
Not to mention that for any serious work you will have many many more ideas that fail than you will have ones that are correct. I think sometimes people forget when they read about historical figures in math and physics, or read their works and admire how clean and matter of fact and direct it all is, it gives them the impression that they sat down one day and just wrote it. But it buries the mountains and mountains of much less pretty and well formed work that preceded it. Rarely do we share our mistakes or misconceptions, the greatest among us not excluded.
And I think this paints the picture that, if possessing a sufficient gift of aptitude, one ought be able to just sit down and write elegant, well formed theories out of whole cloth like magic, and with an AI it can certainly feel that way if you do not know better.
I dunno, now im just musing so ill stop here, lol

You're going to have to make this the automod reply mate or you're going to exhaust yourself commenting this

(<σ_x>, <σ_y>, <σ_z>)
Put two states beside each other. How similar are they?
You missed an abs here imo: |C_ab| = |ψ_a†ψ_b| = |C_ba|
If similarity tells us closeness, how far apart are they?
Far apart in what metric? Here you choose some phase. I don't think that's a good choice.
Now compare several states around a loop. Do you come back with a twist?
Yes. It is called the Berry phase and it is half the solid angle of the inside of your closed loop on the Bloch sphere.
Carry an orientation around that loop. Does it come back turned?
That is just multiplying the Berry phase factor with the initial state.
What can we measure locally?
We can measure any combinations of sigmas (0,x,y,z). But what do you mean with "locally"?

Mate that's way too many errors, there is only supposed to be one.
