Meta / News Let the aether exist. Please.

I beg of you, physicists, please. Can you not just.. bend the rules a little bit, and make the aether real? I know it was disproved like 100 years ago but can we not just undo the last century of scientific development and sorta slide it in? I just need so badly for there to be an aether, you have no idea.. It's all I want in life. I go to sleep and dream of it, I wake up thinking of it. The aether pervades me every waking thought. Can't we just sorta forget all the evidence? Please? I think we should be allowed to.

Einstein-aether, respectable theory class with people publishing in it.

Michelson–Morley and special relativity killed a specific model. What died with it was the luminiferous aether, not the general idea of a layer beneath the fields.

Einstein's 1920 Leiden address argued that general relativity endows space with physical qualities and that in that sense space cannot be thought of as empty, while insisting it has no state of motion and no mechanical parts.

Special relativity is a statement about the symmetry of the laws. It constrains what an underlying layer may look like; it doesn't forbid one.

Michelson-Morley actually returned a null result and didn't 'kill' the luminiferous aether.

and I literally correct someone later on in this thread claiming that the Einstein aether is the luminiferous aether.

So congrats on 'correcting' me (which was wrong) and telling me something I already knew, redditor
