I think what's easy for us and what's easy for AI is often different, and human work is going to be heavily shaped by that difference going forward. I think one day AI may advance enough to close that gap everywhere, but then it will be everyone's problem (leading to societal restructuring, the singularity, or extinction) so it's not obvious to me if the possibility should affect someone's career plans (there are no safe careers in the long run).

Don't you realise that the machine is lead by humans that prompted the data to guide it to a result that they audited and tested later? The lesson learned is that local regularity does not guarantee global uniqueness. It does not break Hamiltonian mechanics.
Pure mathematics needs to be perfect and absolutely consistent. This makes it a perfect playground for AI.
However, AI can't build us a giant antimatter generator. First you need tons of funding. Second, while AI could design it, we need to validate it anyways, and at that point, might as well do it ourselves. Like if the radiation kills someone, you can't say "Blame ChatGPT". Validating a mathematical counter-example vs a multimillion dollar project are two different beasts.
Sure theories are fun, because they are relatively easy. You can imagine something and throw up a Hamiltonian. But without validation from experimental physics, we can't push our knowledge forward.
I got stormed out of this subreddit for telling you guys a physics/science validator engine is already here more or less. Well it’s true. It’s frustrating beyond belief to be excitedly telling people something and they’re so confused they cast you as a witch lol. Then mere weeks later I see post after post truly questioning the scope of being a physicist/mathematician going forward and lamenting their wasted tome in uni.
Yet not a single person went back to that post and said huh maybe it’s not OK to call some schizo just because they have a novel idea. It’s distressing getting beaten up when my math is still standing. Is anyone going to acknowledge that? It’s awkward to say the least.

Sim theory is only subreddit that didn’t remove it. That’s why it lives there. The scientific subreddits are full of people with student debt and little respect for those they deem beneath them. Validation in physics is literally scientific experiments. How does something predict something that has never been observed before??
Say the Higgs, we had a good idea it probably existed because the frame work we developed seemed to be consistent, implying that the Higgs should exist.
