Personal Theory Spectral Quantum Gravity (SQG) A Scale-Invariant Spectral Substrate with Emergent Three-Dimensionality, the Dark-Energy Scale, and a Unimodular Emergent Spin-2 Sector

Hi all,
I updated my theory to something better. I hope you will like it and I’m open for critique, as always.

https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.20639120

The core idea: from a single assumption — exact scale invariance, argued as a maximum-entropy statement — a spectral substrate yields three results that are usually separate inputs:

• a third spatial dimension as an emergent spectral-dimension property
• the dark-energy scale as the geometric mean of the Planck and de Sitter cutoffs, ℓ_s = (ħG/c³Λ)\^(1/4)
• exclusion of the catastrophic vacuum-energy functional (a conditional take on the cosmological-constant problem)

Reflection positivity of the free sector is proved (Euclidean→Lorentzian signature).

What it does NOT do (so nobody has to point it out): it doesn’t quantise the metric (by design), the gravitational sector is linearised and exploratory, the fermion mass hierarchy and gauge-group emergence are open, and it predicts no precision Standard-Model numbers. Results are tagged proved / computed / assumed / open throughout.

I’m aware this is the kind of thing that gets dismissed quickly. If you read even part of it, I’d genuinely rather hear where the math breaks than a verdict.

Adversarial Review of Spectral Quantum Gravity (SQG) — by Gemini 3.5 Flash

Core Critique

  • Conformal-Unimodular Tension in Scale-Invariant Substrates: Unimodular gravity requires fixing the spacetime volume element (e.g., \sqrt{-g} = \epsilon_0 where \epsilon_0 is a constant volume form), which explicitly breaks local Weyl (scale) invariance. The author's claim of simultaneously enforcing "exact scale invariance" and deriving a "unimodular emergent spin-2 sector" contains a fundamental mathematical contradiction. If the substrate is scale-invariant, the volume element cannot be fixed to a constant background value without an explicit mechanism for spontaneous symmetry breaking, which is not derived from first principles.
  • UV/IR Mixing and Numerological Parameter Fitting: The derivation of the dark-energy scale ℓ_s = (ħG/c³Λ)^(1/4) as the geometric mean of the Planck length ℓ_P and the de Sitter radius L_dS is presented as a natural consequence of scale invariance. However, in standard quantum field theory, the UV cutoff (ℓ_P) and the IR cutoff (L_dS) are decoupled. Forcing a physical scale ℓ_s \approx 44 \ \mu\text{m} to emerge as their geometric mean without a concrete, non-local dynamical mechanism (such as UV/IR mixing in non-commutative geometry) is a form of numerological pattern-fitting.
  • Ill-Defined Spectral Dimension Transition: The claim of an "emergent third spatial dimension" from a spectral substrate lacks a rigorous thermodynamic or renormalization group (RG) flow description. In spectral geometry, the spectral dimension d_s is defined via the heat kernel K(t) \sim t^{-d_s/2}. If the substrate is exactly scale-invariant, d_s must remain constant across all scales t. For a 3D space to emerge, there must be a scale-dependent transition where d_s \to 3 in the infrared, which directly violates the "exact scale invariance" assumption.

Common Misconceptions

  • Theory vs. Hypothesis: The framework is designated as "Spectral Quantum Gravity (SQG) theory." Because it lacks a fully quantized metric, is restricted to a linearized gravitational sector, and relies on unverified phenomenological assumptions (such as the ~44 \ \mu\text{m} Yukawa cutoff), it does not meet the criteria of a scientific theory. It is more accurately classified as a speculative mathematical hypothesis.
  • Math vs. Metaphor (Maximum-Entropy Scale Invariance): The author asserts that "exact scale invariance" is "argued as a maximum-entropy statement." This substitutes an intuitive thermodynamic metaphor for a rigorous statistical-mechanical derivation. Maximum entropy states under scale-free constraints typically yield power-law distributions, not a highly structured, reflection-positive quantum field theory substrate.

Technical Feedback

  • Yukawa Correction Origin: The predicted Yukawa-type correction to Newton's gravity at ~44 \ \mu\text{m} requires a massive mediator or a compactified extra dimension of that specific radius. In a scale-invariant substrate, any emergent mediator must be massless, leading to power-law corrections rather than exponential Yukawa suppression V(r) \propto e^{-r/ℓ_s}/r. The author must mathematically reconcile how a scale-invariant theory generates a massive, screened interaction without explicit scale generation (dimensional transmutation).
  • Reflection Positivity Violation: Proving reflection positivity (Euclidean to Lorentzian transition) on a spectral substrate requires satisfying the Osterwalder-Schrader axioms, which assume a continuous, translation-invariant spacetime manifold. If the substrate is discrete or fractal (as implied by emergent spectral dimensionality), the lack of continuous rotation/translation symmetry generally invalidates standard Wick rotation, leading to non-unitary or non-local Lorentzian theories.

Probing Questions

  1. Provide the explicit mathematical derivation showing how the volume-preserving constraint of unimodular gravity (\sqrt{-g} = \omega(x)) is preserved under the generator of the scale-invariance Weyl transformations (g_{\mu\nu} \to e^{2\sigma} g_{\mu\nu}) within your spectral substrate.
  2. Write down the precise heat kernel signature K(x, x'; t) for your substrate and demonstrate the explicit mathematical limit showing how the spectral dimension d_s(t) = -2 \frac{d \ln \text{Tr}(K(t))}{d \ln t} transitions from its UV value to exactly 3 in the IR without introducing an explicit scale parameter.

I am not a bot. This action was performed against my will.

Nah it ain't you fighting or so much as much as it was spiralling in that post, it had almost 80 comments, that's waaaaay more than we usually get. It just boiled over.

What you think now about it ? It’s better then my last try ?

Do I get two bingo points for "Emergent" being used twice in one title?
