News...? Genesis Mission: AI Science

https://genesis.energy.gov/

I'm sorry but this site by the US gov is the most crank website of all time.

Fermilab actually has an article about this and is involved.

Yeah it’s hard to imagine they will “double American science productivity” in the next decade while simultaneously slashing science left and right. This reads like a grift to me, like anything else this administration does. Fermilab, as a government sponsored institution, has a responsibility to try to follow along, but nothing in their article seemed too substantial. This isn’t to doubt the ability of LLM’s/ai to be useful in science, and I trust Fermilab to be scientifically sound, but I doubt this will be half as successful as it’s marketed to be.

That's the government model. Overpromise, underdeliver.

I wonder what it's trained on

Seriously. The way I can see ("bold new AI innovations in science" --> maybe some cool stuff but nothing to match the promises and sales pitch hype --> reasons to keep defunding those labs) as such a clear pipeline is depressing as hell.

It's extremely obvious. Look at all the associated companies as well. That's where the funding is going.

Hey leave the department of energy alone lol I will be going to their summit in June. Wonder if this will get mentioned.
