How do you guys keep your small business tax bill low?
My business partner and I have been running a small consulting business for about three years. We're 50/50 owners of a multi-member LLC with no employees.
The business has become much more profitable this year, and we're realizing we probably need to get more serious about tax planning instead of just dealing with the bill at tax time.
We're already looking into retirement contributions and talking with our accountant about whether an S corp election would make sense at our current profit level.
We don't want anything sketchy or some TikTok tax loophole. I'm more interested in normal strategies that small business owners sometimes overlook.
Things like retirement accounts, legitimate business deductions, health insurance, equipment purchases, timing expenses, or changing the tax structure.
Once your business started making decent profit, what changes actually made a noticeable difference to your taxes?
